Grippo's are simply put, the best 'effin' BBQ chips !!

They're a company out of Cincinnati, OH and have a sweet heat to the BBQ flavor.

http://www.grippos.com/

They're also the best way to bread fried chicken :D

A friend and I had lunch at Hammerheads yesterday. All and all a bang up job. Well deserving of the great review, and quite the intriguing menu. I had the brisket sandwich, well smoked and no sauce, with the Mac and Cheese. Both very good. My buddy had the pulled pork sandwich, the backed beans with pork belly and a cup of the special chili. His bill with two beers came to a total with tip to 22 bucks. Mine was 15 bucks. I thought the sandwiches a little on the small side, and the price might be a turnoff for the casual lunch goer. But with that said, they have a great vibe and had a decent crowd at opening time on a Sat. They have big plans and are a welcome addition to the Germantown, Swan St. neighborhood. Best of luck.

Finally went last sat. evening - we went early (6 - 6:30) assuming thay may get slammed because of the CJ article, and they did as we were finishing up.

Four of us shared the fried mushrooms w/ sundried tomato aioli - very good - we kept the left-over aioli in case we wanted it w/ something else!

Hubby had the babybacks, my sister & I had the beef brisket sammich and my bro-in-law had the chorizo burger. The brisket was really good, but the sandwich was a little dry - not that I would've added sauce, but even a juicy(er) tomato slice would have made it perfect. My bro-in-law said the chorizo wasn't spicy enough for him - I thought it had a nice flavor. Next, the ribs...OMG - they were outstanding. And I'm one who likes a splash of sauce just before they're brought off the grill - but these, oh no, they didn't need a thing. Fall off the bone, tender, smokey, FLAVA-LISCOUS!!!! (that's like booty-liscious for food!!! 8) ) - really, my hubby says he's craving them again already so we're going back sometime next week...

The fries were good - we all got a different one (they were out of the sweet potato) so I got yucca chips. IMO the yucca chips were the best of all - I recommend these with the ribs or any sandwich.

Finally, the bacon brownie - we split one - it was also flava-liscious! My sister ordered an extra to go. BTW - we really liked the setting & atmosphere. All I can say is what Dean (hubby) kept saying..."man, I wish we had a place like this near our house - we'd eat there every week!"

way to go guys - keep up the GREAT work!

We tried to go Sunday for dinner, arriving just before 7 to find a sign on the door saying they were closing at 7 for a private party. The place was packed, and I opened the door before noticing the sign. Some lady huffed quite loudly at me, but I don't think she worked there.

We'll give it another shot some other time. A short hop over to Eiderdown fit the bill nicely instead.

Steve P - what's this :? :( ??? They were smoked to perfection!! Like I said, I like a dry rub, with sauce applied at the end. These were not sauced, and I was in heaven - very moist, too. I just can't imagine you not liking them - go w/ someone who will order them and let you sample, THEN let's see what kind of faces you make mister

BTW the dog fish head was perfect with the brisket & ribs :)

With no reflection upon subject establishment (since I haven't yet tried the place) but more as a general comment, let me just say that the term "falling off the bone" (ribs) is to me what fingernails on the blackboard are to others.

In competition BBQ circles I have never heard anyone shout out with glee "Hey guys, look I cooked my ribs until they were falling off the bone"....Rather in such (fortunately rare) instances, the guilty party will usually sidle up to the community adult beverage cooler with somewhat of an embarrassed "I got caught kicking the puppy" look on their face and in a whispered voice hiss something like: "DAMMIT !!!....l over cooked my ribs, the damn things are falling off the bone". The later expression will usually be met by a number of understanding frowns, a few of pats of condolence upon the back and maybe a couple of "better luck next time/s".

ok, ok let me re-phrase...you can cut a half/rack into individual ribs without messing up the meat-from-the bone, but one tug with your teeth or fingers and the meat is yours - ALL of it, no need to rip it from the bone. Maybe true BBQers consider that overcooked - to me it's perfect. I know they smoke them a long time out front.

OK. If that is the case, then indeed they were cooked to some semblance of perfection. Thanks for the clarification.

I don't know where this concept of "falling off the bone" ribs being a good thing got it's start, although I suspect restaurants like Tony Roma's, etc are at least partly to blame. The bottom line is that "falling off the bone" ribs are to BBQ what the "charred hockey puck" is to steak. Overdone and undesirable.

I'm no BBQ expert by any means, and have never been to a BBQ competition, but I don't think you can compare falling off the bone meat to charred well done steak. One is flavorless and tough to chew, one melts in your mouth. The more tender, the better IMHO.

Also, i never like Tony Roma's...just to clarify that. :D
