Ask a 16 year old boy what Teabagging is...the term has been around a lot longer than Palin has been pretending to be a politician. Though I do find the connection rather humorous given the words long standing slang meaning and the politicians that are trying to use it. It speaks volumes for their experience and professionalism.

If you are curious about the more widely known meaning of the term, visit UrbanDictionary.com. It is a great resource should you have to deal with teenagers or other nubile minded individuals (aka Tea Party). I should note that my parents think Sarah Palin is the greatest thing to ever happen to politics...ironic for people that raised me to be a free thinker!

There is a political debate that we can have about whether the Tea Partiers are a good or bad phenomenon. As a conservative Democrat, who might still change party affiliations or maybe register independent, I really didn't understand before the Republican complaints about how they are ridiculed for perfectly reasonable, and normal, political positions. I clearly understand that now.

The Tea Party looks to me to be a mostly fiscally conservative movement. I guess this is beyond the pale for some folks. Since this apparently makes them sexually deviant, bigoted, arsonists. It's so important that we know this, that the usual forum rules of decorum are set aside to attack this specific group of people.

Here's where you can find out about the sexual slur.

Seriously, I can say whatever I want, as long as I've seen it on a sign before? Really?

I'm not aware that the words "Tea bag" are vulgar. Except perhaps in their political use, attributed to a gang that bears some resemblance to the No Nothing Party of the 1800s.

Interesting. By definition, freethinkers can't be Palin supporters. When did your parents stop their free thinking?

Here is a site for gay supporters of Sarah Palin. They used to be Hillary Clinton supporters.

Do they qualify as free thinkers? Or are they closed minded also?

Maybe they burn down restaurants in their spare time?

I first knew what the term was because of video games. In a FPs game, if you shoot someone at close range you can position your character over the face of their prone character and press the B button multiple times. This makes your character squat over them repeatedly.

In this case, calling someone a teabagger is like saying, "you not only beat me, you humiliated me." I don't see the logic in taking this position in a debate.

The first time I heard someone call tea party people "teabaggers" I thought it was a bit funny. A culture reference and a play on words. A couple of years later it is just trite. Also, when I read/see someone call others "teabaggers" I get a mental image of that person as the teabaggee. I hate when that happens with someone I like/respect.

I read the article at the link. I wasn't "whining" and I wasn't particularly offended by the term. I was just surprised at the name calling.

I'm pretty sure I didn't make a generalization, but a specific statement. And it was about 4 years ago when they quit looking at all sides of the cube. But your intentions are quite clear Steve, thanks but I'll pass.

I can only read what you write.

My only intention is to highlight how it's open season to insult anyone that shows even the hint of Conservatism. It doesn't seem to matter whether they've drifted off the plantation for their social or fiscal views.

It sounds like your parents views took a significant change about the same time that mine did. I have a lot of sympathy for them, as my changing views have made me a target too. That's why I asked about your parents. I wasn't trying to be a smart aleck. I do find it funny that they are the ones that actually changed their minds, yet they are supposed to be the closed minded ones. Indeed, I do have a lot of sympathy for them.

Actually interested in Dejlah Bistro

by Lonnie Turner » Sat Dec 04, 2010 9:54 pm

Just a suggestion, but could this thread be renamed something like "Political Stuff" so that everyone who is actually interested in the situation with the restaurant would know to post on the one called "Dejlah Bistro Fire"? I keep checking in when I see new posts on this one but there's very little said about the restaurant after the first page of posts.

Or perhaps those throwing this thread so off track would like to start a new one " Politics and Restaurants".

Or just declare the conversation at a dead end? I'm down with that ...

Sorry that this turned into a thread jacking. Here's another thread about the fire that someone previously started.
