Discovery channel will be running a show that revolves around the Dogfish brew master.

Speaking of over-priced and IMHO over-rated mad scientist beer...

Sounds good to me.

Hey...wait a minute. I thought everyone regarded a block of Wisconsin Cheese and a case of Leinies as the good life. :?

Alongside pints and growlers from the locals, I would be happy with a fridge that had only BBC Nut Brown, Stone Levitation, and Bells Two-Hearted. I try to remind myself of this when I go to the store seeking out "something new."
Thinks the frosty mug is the low point in American history.

Hey David,

Never let it be said that we're too caught up in conversation to say "welcome to the forum". Glad to have ya.

Funny story about Gophers and Badgers...When I lived in MN I had friends on both sides of the St. Croix. Whenever we had a party you could always tell the Badgers from the Gophers. The Gophers would always show up with a little cooler and a six pack of beer. The Badgers would always show up with a giant cooler and a case of beer. :D My kinda people.

I find nearly all beer in the States wildly expensive, no matter what style/brand.. I pay about EUR13 for 20 half liter bottles of say Bitburger so about USD18.. A case of Flensburgers or even Czech Pils runs maybe USD 20 a case. Unfortunately the krauts refuse to sell Belgian beer, but I can wizz on over there and load up the trunk a couple of times a year. Last trip I bought about EUR 200 worth. I tried checking what it woud cost in the States but quit counting at about USD 500 and I wasn't even a third of the way through.

Same thing for wine. U.S. prices are obscene. The flip side is liquor which is cheap as chips Stateside and obscenely expensive over here. Basically you have amazing choice in the States but prices are prohibitively high. In Germany you're very limited, mostly to local stuff but they price it like a basic life necessity.

As we speak I have 2 of these, the Stone and Bells in my fridge.
Happy fridge indeed :D

A fine beer may be judged with only one sip, but it's better to be thoroughly sure.

We need to compare apples to apples. All you've established is that in a monoculture, boredom is cheap, and when one ships beer long distances, added costs accumulate.

Caught the first episode of this one last night ("Bitches Brew"). I was impressed with the size/scope/sophistication of the operation, can't say I was impressed in the least with the "off center beer - for off center people" corporate battle cry...and the owner (whatever his name is) comes off like some kind of Duff Goldman goofball. I've always enjoyed the 60 minute IPA but some (most ?) of the other stuff seems a little flaky.
