Walking to the recent PHT chili cookoff, I couldn't help but notice all the anti-Wayside signs still on display. If Wayside has found a home, why are the signs still up?

Second, while I agree with a neighborhood's associations right to voice their opinion and look out for the members' best interests, those signs had a major rhetorical flaw. I'm not exactly sure of the full wording of the sign, but they did say something like, "megashelters are too big to be good for anyone." Who in the world made them experts to speak for what is or is not good for those in need? They should just have stuck to the "we don't want our property value to go down" argument and not have spoken out of place in regards to what is best for people they are in no position to speak for.

Part of what makes Louisville interesting is a strong neighborhood bar culture, and for some reason the city and the ABC seem hell-bent on destroying it. The Swan Dive is already closing because they can't offer outdoor drinking or music, and I read in a recent article that Seidenfaden's business is down for the same reason.

Also - and this probably won't be a popular opinion - but I think it takes some brass balls to move near an established bar and immediately start complaining about noise. It's like moving next to a landfill and wondering why there's always a smell. There are plenty of quiet neighborhoods in this city, but if you chose to move next to a bar it could very well get noisy. Deal with it, buttercup.

This in no way excuses vandalism or illegal activites by bar patrons. That's a tad more serious than a noise complaint.

Funny...when I moved to Hepburn Avenue, there was a laundy-mat and dry cleaners where the Monkey Wrench is located. We probably shouldn't mention the noise of the roof top seating addition.

Best regards,

Has anyone ever noticed on episodes of House Hunters the number of people that when searching for a home say they want to be "in the middle of the action", " right downtown" or "within walking distance to our favorite restaurants/pubs" . Invariably while being shown just sort of a house/condo they will wrinkle their nose and say "But it's so noisy!" As if being in the middle of the action would be quiet and serene.
HOWEVER, for those home owners that bought in a quiet area that later evolved into a noisy party mecca I can't imagine anything more distressing. I think the idea of finding that perfect home in an ideal area that you can remain in for the rest of our lives has become a thing of the past. Neighborhoods are in a constant state of flux and change. If it were me would I stay and fight the evolution or cope with the change? I don't know.

Ignoring the Monkey Wrench for a moment and speaking just to the issue of 4 a.m. licenses. I can't for the life of me understand why ANY drinking establishment needs to be open at until 4.a.m.

4 am is pretty late. It makes it hard on us older folks who would like to catch a great band on a Sat. night. They do not start until midnight at most places. On the rare occasion we rally and stay out that late it takes a whole day to recover. I do not seem to bounce back like I did in my 20's
