It looks like some folks in Wyoming are trying to do away with the potluck concept.

Im guessing its not going to help your reelection chances by being the guy who banned the community potluck dinner.
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

Isn't this what happened here when Wayside Christian Mission tried collecting homemade meals for the shelters for Thanksgiving....that lasted all of one year because of the health department. I enjoyed taking a dish down there and was planning what to make the next time... :(

We will certainly be there and are bringing our neighbors/friends, Libby and Jerry, who are on the Forum but have never been to an Offline. I will bring the baked beans that I brought last year and my "Award Winning?" cole slaw (eat your heart out Gary F.)!!! Libby is bringing a chocolate cake. Really looking forward to the event and thanks to all who organized it.

HEY !! Does anyone have an "in" with "Dare to Care" ? I need a name and a number. I have written to two different people within the organization over the past two weeks regarding our desire to make them the beneficiary of this event and haven't heard squat from either of them. Anyone ? Anyone ?

You might also try T Wilson Montgomery, who's one of our contacts with Dare to Care at the St. Matthew's food pantry. I suggest phone, not Email. It's not as easy to put off. ;)

You wouldn't think they'd want to "put off" folks trying to give them money :!:

I'm not going to comment on that in public, but then, I have one of those little sensors that most adults have inside our heads that tells us, "Hold on, better not open my mouth and let THAT one fly out ... "

Ahhhhh...I'm sure it's just a case of someone has been too busy to reply. More than anything else I just had the feeling that I had emailed the wrong person and hoped someone else had their thumb on the pulse of this one.. I dropped 'em another email today and if I don't get a reply by Monday a.m. I'll give the feller a call. No big deal Brian (or Robin).

On to better things. Did someone say they were bringing dessert ? Stevie LIKES dessert :P

hey guys,
i am very happy to meet anyone at dare to care and give an impromptu tour, anytime tuesday through thursday. or, better yet, if there is a group,i will arrange transportation... we will meet at baxter station @ 8:30 a.m. (whatever day), i will provide breakfast, ... will take you out to dare to care and if anyone has a halfway negative remark, i will then treat everyone to lunch.
if anyone who bothers to show, does not have a disparaging remark, then i get taken to lunch... could be in cincy or indy or st.louis...but the bill then falls on the person who wasn't paying attention during the tour.
our restaurant community steps up, every year, to raise $100,000.00 for dare to care (taste of the derby festival). the staff was most recently fully occupied by the hunger walk on the waterfront, that also raised 100K.
d.t.c. distributes 10 MILLION pounds of food in our community every year!!
please do not speak poorly of the organization that steps up, everyday, to provide food in our community.
why don't we change the venue of this event from cardinal harbor, to one of the kids cafes that d.t.c. serves 3-4 dinners at each week? bring your pot luck to the shawnee kids cafe, neighborhood house in portland, americana apartments or the presbyterian community center on shelby in smoketown.
serve those kids, then pat yourselves on the back for raising $350.00.
for full transparency... i am an 8 year board member of d.t.c.. have worked on the taste of the derby festival for at least 10.
d.t.c. runs on a 5% administrative cost. the other 95% goes back into our community to feed kids, seniors, and anyone who is in a food emergency situation.
