From what I hear...it hasn't. It's called being "Sergio-ed". At least one former customer I know has sworn the place off because of this.

Ballot stuffing is always a problem for anyone hosting a voting event such as LEO's. Back when I worked for LEO all the voting was done on paper ballots. It was logistically impossible to keep track of and weed out multiple votes unless they were really obvious. The sheer volume of responses made it impossible. (Yes people did actually take the time to mail in those voting sheets, hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of them.) At least now with on line voting there can be some sort of tracking done. How ballot stuffing is avoided I have no idea - I'm not that computer savvy to know how stuffing can be stopped- but at least counting the legitimate votes is made a bit easier. I do think some of the winners in some of the categories merely reflect the readership density of LEO in the HIghlands which has always been very heavy.

Jucy's is consistently inconsistent but on a good day their Brisket takes a back seat to no one. I started to throw Big R's in La Grange into the mix but the past two times I've been by there they have been closed. Not sure if that is temporary or what. When they are/were open they had a pretty darn good pork sammich. In fairness I've had FABD BBQ once...and found it lacking. Everything (that day) was way over cooked. That being said I'll give them another try as I've found most BBQ restaurants can be inconsistent due to the nature of the product. Mark's Feed Store - "Meh" on every level. Famous Dave - Corporate BBQ (BUT I have had some good Q at the original restaurant in MN), Smoketown - It wasn't bad, mof it was pretty good but the neighborhood is a little crusty for my tastes and it certainly wasn't enough to make me drive 15 miles past Texican's. All this being said BBQ is like Pizza or Chili or a great burger. In other words entirely subjective. I don't condemn people for voting Mark's as some of the best BBQ in town any more than I condemn people for voting for Sarah Palin...but doing so don't make 'em right :P

Thanks! I have a friend in Indy that likes to travel and try different BBQ joints. Sounds like I need to try Texicans myself.

Anyone ever tried Rite Way BBQ? It looks like an "authentic" experience if nothing else.

I would like to withdraw a bit of my snarkiness from yesterdays posts. While I stand by my "Meh" evaluation of Mark's...and probably won't go back...I do admit to having hit both FABD and Smokehouse at relatively non-peak times. As I've mentioned in at least one other post, probably more, BBQ is one of those things where if you hit it right...it's great. If you hit it 2 (or God forbid) 3 hours after it's come out of the smoker the results are very often less than outstanding. Given the fickleness of the industry I think this is something most BBQ joints suffer with. So yeah, I'll try both places again but will do so at a more peak time to ensure the best product.

Bingo. You're in the front row.

When we first moved here we fell victim...for a variety of reasons...to the idea that if it ain't along Bardstown Rd or Frankfort Ave, it's probably not worth going to. It's taken a while but we've slowly came to the realization that there are excellent restaurants all OVER our wonderful city. But to respond to the question, yes...yes demographics certainly play into this.
