We had a great time at the offline. It was nice seeing our new old foodie friends and a few we hadn't met before. The food was good, too.

It was a great evening. Food was excellent as well as the company. I will definitely add The Village Anchor Pub to my list of go-to places. It had such a wonderful feel to it, reminiscent of some of Monterey restaurants I've visited. Thanks to all that came and shared and thanks to Gayle for organizing things.

Lots of fun seeing everyone, and applause and thanks to Gayle for doing an outstanding job of organizing. As it turned out, we had only two no-shows ... good on all the rest of you, but for future reference, please note: If you sign up for a spot at a forum offline where we've made special accommodations for a large group, PLEASE POST IF IT TURNS OUT YOU CAN'T MAKE IT! Thanks, now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Annemarie, it looks like your feelings about the restaurant are very similar to how we felt about the restaurant after our first visit. It's a very nice place but the food and service don't justify the prices. It has great potential but certainly isn't there yet. We definitely prefer the Anchorage café next door. The prices are much more reasonable and the food is better!

If you like reuben sammiches, go over to Stephens and Stephens! 6 bucks, give or take - and it's REALLY awesome!

15 bucks is way too much for a sandwich...and I am not cheap when it comes to dining out ;).

That was our general assessment also. Pretty place, food good to pretty good, but nothing to justify the pricing.

In fact, coming home, DH turns to me and says, "I thought you said this place was gonna be fantastic!" I responded, "No, I said it was new."

OK, I must take a bit of issue with the assessments made above, although I do respect the opinions provided, and am not questioning them at all. It was not an evening without a few snags, but I totally enjoyed the evening and the food.

I had the Mussels and the cheese sampler platter. The Mussels were tender, very flavorful, moist and very warm. My only complaint with the dish was the toast was a bit burnt.....a minor nudge.......

The cheese platter was, well, not quiet what I expected. It was very tasty, don't get me wrong, but it was very "white"....and the cheeses all seemed to have the same general flavor. Presentation was very nice.

Dessert (the Carrot/Cheese cake) was incredable. It was very rich, very sweet and so much so I couldn't finish it off.

Alan raved about his fish and chips, and I heard no complaints from the others at our table about their dishes (and from what I got to sample, was very impressed).

Alan and I have definatly decided that it is on our "got to go back to" list.....

One assessment that I heard from a couple of people was the "free use" of spices. That usually is not an issue with me, but for some, it could be......just sayin'

All in all, I would recommend, with a not of caution.

I had the Reuben. It may not have been the best, but it was good and was big enough that I brought half home.

I thought the service was excellent. The server left the bill and when he didn't return immediately to pickup credit cards/cash another server quickly took care of it. The owner and the chef and Kelly (??) and April all came by. Not obtrusive but very friendly. I knew April. Even had a young fellow, bus boy, offer to help me to my car as a stumbled out with my go box and cane. Very thoughtful. Our server was asked some questions and he knew the answers.

Like others, Gayle is thanked for setting this up.

this would not be a place to down a couple of beers and some wine. you would need a small loan... lol

Yeah, I had 2 of those "Draft" Hoptimus for a whopping $18. For that I should of at least got a Rohypnol slipped in and a ride home from the waiter.  The cole slaw was excellent though.

Were they 20oz pours, if so, that is not really out of line.

I believe so. Full pints, at least. I'm afraid some of our group came under the impression that the Anchor was a deli or something. :(

Their motto is "comfort food with a twist." It's a fancy Anchorage eatery with a classy look and a casual vibe, and the menu runs all the way from a baloney sandwich to a $38 steak. The down-home stuff, though, is generally kind of tongue-in-cheek, like a burger made with meatloaf (which is excellent).

There's been a lot of discussion of the restaurant on the forum, and I reviewed it a couple of weeks ago - http://www.louisvillehotbytes.com/villa ... akes-roost - but if a number of smart people in our group didn't get it, maybe they're not communicating.

I don't mean this negatively, Annemarie - you know that - but maybe you and the Anchor just aren't a good fit? It's amazingly popular, so I guess the people who do like it will keep it afloat. ;)
