Wathen's

Booker's

Pappy 20 year.

Yep. I stand by it.

I have to ask.

How can you drink Booker's straight and call 46 harsh? That's like eating a ghost pepper and then calling a jalapeno spicy.

The Wathen's and Pappy I get. Both are smooth and mild with a light mouth and clean finish but Booker's is exactly the flavor profile 46 is going after.

I agree with you on the Bookers, its one of the most harsh bourbons I have ever tried. I always tell people that it has a lot of character.

Some of my favorites:
Kentucky Bourbon Distillers Vintage 17 year Old
Willett
Four Roses Small Batch
Wild Turkey Rare Breed
Rowan's Creek.

My budget bourbon is the Weller Special Reserve. 7 years old, and I think we retail is for $15.99 per 750. Evan Williams Single Barrel is another great one for the price as well.
Keg Liquors
Keeping Kentuckiana Beer'd since 1976

1) I meant to mention before that Maker's 46 is blended. It is not a single barrel or small batch product.

2) Someone asked what those of us who think 46 should be consumed neat drink. I will list my top 5.

Four Roses Single Barrel
Blanton's Original Single Barrel
Elijah Craig 18 year
Pappy Van Winkle's 20 Year Reserve
Noah's Mill

Best Budget Bourbon : Evan Williams Single Barrel

Hope that helps.

Having seen Chris's list, I'm looking forward to seeing how this compares neat to, say, the Blanton's and the Evan Williams. Those are two I very much enjoy.

Matt,

It is definitely spicier than either of those two. It has a nice cinnamon finish and a little tingle as it goes down. Closer to the Evan than the Blanton's, but still sticking with the Maker's profile. You would have no trouble picking this out as a Maker's Mark product.

I like it. Again, not one of my tops, but the best thing Maker's has put out. JMHO.

I could see that, but I've grown used to Booker's so I guess I've also grown used to the bite. If MM46 is chasing Booker's, they're doing a poor job.
