Tony, is that a one-time deal, or will you do it for other games? All USA games that don't start too early? Etc.

Robin,

We will do it for other games. I will post in advance! Thanks

You want to show us how you could do out there on the field running for 90 minutes with only a five-minute halftime break and no time-outs? ;)

Here Here Robin. Anyway, you want to bandy the "Puss" phrase about. I think American Football is pussy. In Rugby they don't wear great big helmets and knee pads and shoulder pads and a bloody board down their pants lol

England is going to whup your ass on Saturday (I hope) :D

The fact that there is a bar where the Brewery used to be, right here in Louisville, called Big Blue Country both saddens and angers me.

Hey, the simple country folk have to have some place to feel comfortable when they come to the big city for a night of sin!

Here's an update on the commemorative beer that we'll be tapping for USA vs. England:

NABC World Cup Series starts Saturday with the debut of "USA vs England – Ordinary Bitter."
http://potablecurmudgeon.blogspot.com/2010/06/nabc-world-cup-series-starts-saturday.html

Chef Josh says he'll have a couple of appropriately themed dishes available during the match. We'll be repeating the drill with different beer creations and themed edibles during the Slovenia and Algeria matches.

Apparently so, per their Website, which says Molly's will be open for all 2010 World Cup games:

For an early game, though, it would probably still be prudent to call and check.

Maybe we can find someplace that is being painted and is watching the soccer games.

That way we could get a double thrill...... watching paint dry and soccer. :D :D

So I wasn't going to post this because it's my favorite beer and I love the place and we still had a good time at BSB last Saturday, but here's a few gripes...

First let me say that the place was busy but not crowded.

The service was really slow. Our waiter never once asked if we wanted a refill even after the beers were empty, I had to flag him down multiple times, and he didn't explain anything on the menu or about the beer to us except that the kitchen was closing at 2pm, which I'll get to. I dunno if it was the kitchen or the waiter to blame(it looked as if they had one waiter for the whole dining area) but it took over 20 minutes to get fries, a salad and mussels.

OK, I know it's a "gastro-pub" and they always close the kitchen in the early afternoon, but when you have an event like the World Cup that you made a special beer for, extend the kitchen hours. I wanted a burger at halftime and had to go elsewhere.

Finally, the biggest gripe... only one TV, and the volume was very low. Seems to me even if you need to rent them, you get extra TV's for an 'event' on TV that you have been promoting... at the very least run the sound through the music speakers so we can hear the play by play,

All that being said, the food and beer were wonderful. Ordinary English Bitter was verrrry tasty!

Doh! That's a good point, and truth be told, it's the first time that the "usual 2 pm break vs special occasion" even occurred to me. About all I can add to this is that (a) staff had to be spaced out on Sat. so that we could cover the match, the usual shifts, Louisville Ale Club visit AND the after-hours party following the Celts on the River show; (b) we don't often emphasize sports at BSB in the evening, much less early afternoon (and morning), and so those organizational muscles are atrophied; and (c) most of our collective thought process was invested in showcasing the special beers brewed for the occasion.

Which reminds me. Here's next: NABC World Cup Series resumes Friday morning with the debut of "USA vs Slovenia – Keller Pils." http://potablecurmudgeon.blogspot.com/2010/06/nabc-world-cup-series-resumes-friday.html

Thanks for the critique, and I'm glad you liked what you got. There are always more possibilities to consider than the ones any of us conceive.

No problem Roger. I was trying my best to be positive because I really do enjoy everything about the BSB but I thought not mentioning anything would do you a disservice.

I assume there's quite a bit of the Keller Pils? I only ask because I'll be tied up most of the day and may not make it over there until Friday night or Saturday afternoon
