What the world really needs is for random atheists and Robin to explain to all the various Christian denominations that their theology is wrong and hateful. If they could just be shamed enough, they would see the error of their ways, dissolve their various denominations, with every Christian merging into the One True Christian Church (also approved by atheists). All will be rainbows and unicorns, while everyone wonders why there were ever separate denominations to begin with.

So respond to what I wrote. Do you think Jesus Christ would actively try to keep homosexuals from having the right to marry? This is a yes or no question.

Not for me to say.

I'm just pointing out that facile arguments will not change 2000 years of Christian theology. You're probably not as conversant in that topic as you think you are.

That's what I thought. You just won't answer. Pathetic.

Oh, and nice assumption about my knowledge of Christianity and theology.

You're nothing but a troll who keeps dodging and changing the subject. You and Steve P were made for each other.

I'm not opposed to same sex marriage. You would have known this had you been reading along. So, not only would my answer serve no rhetorical purpose, I'm really not interested in arguing the theology around this issue. But mostly, I think you'd be boring.

Why is that pathetic?

Mike Hardin wrote:Oh, and nice assumption about my knowledge of Christianity and theology.

I was judging your knowledge of theology by the college BS-session level of your argument. If you have more, you can bring it; though, I'm really not who needs convincing.

I never start any threads on these topics. I don't have an enemies list, nor do I stalk people in other threads either.

Your accusation is hereby rejected.

I've been reliably informed that there would be nothing morally wrong with that.

My Sweetie might object though.

I think the opinions of a majority of the American people is being shown very publicly today other crowds that are flocking to Chick-Fil-A to show their support for Mr. Cathy! They may not totally agree with his position but they certainly support his right to say and do as he wants, something a lot of people who have posted in this thread don't.

Point to one single quote in this thread where someone who doesn't agree with Mr Cathy's statement says he should not have the right to say it.

And just because CFA is having a good day for this, I think your math might be a tad shy of facts when you state that this shows a majority of the American people support this. Try starting here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_opinion_of_same-sex_marriage_in_the_United_States#Polls_in_2012

A quote for Mr. Cathy that he posted on Facebook today:
"The Chick-fil-A culture and service tradition in our restaurants is to treat every person with honor, dignity and respect – regardless of their belief, race, creed, sexual orientation or gender. We will continue this tradition in the over 1,600 Restaurants run by independent Owner/Operators. Going forward, our intent is to leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government and political arena.

Chick-fil-A is a family-owned and family-led company serving the communities in which it operates. From the day Truett Cathy started the company, he began applying biblically-based principles to managing his business. For example, we believe that closing on Sundays, operating debt-free and devoting a percentage of our profits back to our communities are what make us a stronger company and Chick-fil-A family.

Our mission is simple: to serve great food, provide genuine hospitality and have a positive influence on all who come in contact with Chick-fil-A."

On the whole, that's a pretty decent statement, although to be honest, they have left a lot on the record to indicate that their interpretation of "biblically based principles" is not necessarily mainstream.

My big issue with this response, though, is that it continues to ignore - as some in this discussion have ignored - the demonstrable reality that both the Cathy family and the corporation they own have placed a large number of dollars into organizations that pursue a particular issue that is inimical to a large number of Americans and their families and friends. That is non-trivial, and in my opinion it provides good reason for good people to take their business elsewhere and to encourage others to do the same.

I've been thinking about this statement. "Not for me to say." It actually is for you to say since I asked your opinion. You've copped out of answering my question. The rest of what you wrote infers that you are more conversant in that topic than I am so I'll ask again: Do you think Jesus Christ would actively work to keep gay couples from getting married?
