From what I've read it's more the latter. The unions aren't getting a piece of the action in a chain that's rapidly growing so they are picketing because of it. Its employees truly wanted one they could petition for a vote to what one in, something they haven't done.

This article seems strangely appropriate with how this thread has evolved.

I've had some of the best corn on the cob, strawberries, and Italian Cream cake from there. (not sure where they get the cake from...I don't think they make it, but it rocks!)

That would be Q&A Sweet Treats for the Italian Cream Cake, Christina. It's an old family recipe, so glad you enjoy it!

Funny how none of our left leaning posters have had anything to say about the article! It certainly seems like it's a well written factually based article. I especially liked the sentence about the left not liking anything big except the gov't!

You mean "factually based" in the "we report, you decide" vein, correct?

It's not an article. It's a polemic.

It would be preferable if you didn’t have a logo. Actually, it would be preferable if you didn’t even have a sign. (Note: This will also give you a cool, underground vibe.)

This is a favorite.

No trans-fats. No plastics. No high-fructose corn syrup. Don’t even think of selling tobacco, unless it’s that apple-flavored stuff we need for our Hookahs. You may sell alcohol, but only organic wine and micro-brewed beer. Nothing from Big Alcohol. Except PBR, of course. (But remember, keep those prices low!)

Not to mention this one.

Might as well have just said "The Proper Method to operate and own a Hipster Grocery".

Of course it is a polemic, it's a blog.. You should click through to the original article, which was also published in the WSJ.

I wasn't gonna post this at all, but Nimbus saying that Trader Joe's was beating the "free market" and the union stores with how they treat their employees. If Trader Joe's isn't an example of "free market", then what is it?

The whole concept of selective outrage to be very interesting.

I noticed today that Trader Joe's has started taking job applications at a storefront next to Honeybaked Ham. Considering how high the unemployment rate is, I was a little surprised that there didn't seem to be anybody applying for a job when I walked by.

The important thing is Trader Joe's is coming, and unlike Nashville's location, they'd better be bringing Five Buck Chuck with 'em. And those incredible triple ginger gingersnaps.

It's Five Buck Chuck Now?

I know it isn't Two Buck Chuck anymore but I was thinking it was still at least Three or Four Buck Chuck...
