Check the Brick House website. This place with its frat boy 'tude goes a giant step beyond Hooters.

Hooters still does it; regardless of their scale of depravity...and I've seen the website. Sorry, but "Hooters isn't AS bad to women as Brick House " is not going to cut it in my opinion. However, it's my opinion.

Any restaurant that demeans women as part of a corporate strategy

Not to pick out Steve, but this is the statement I was answering in my post. From what I understand, people are fine with Hooters and not this place? Yes, both are bad. Yes, both attempt to cash in on something that's demeaning...but it does not mean they are not successful.

Whatever....Step down off the high horse guys.
Personal opinions aside, demeaning or not, I don't think it really matters to the type woman applying to work at a place like this. I think probably they have checked those feelings at the door. They know exactly what they are getting into. It's not like they are working at a strip joint!

Philosophically is it a more demeaning corporate strategy than say a swimsuit maker using voluptuous models in their advertising or worse than beer or cigarette manufacturers using attractive, scantily clad young women to pass out samples at establishments I frequent?

Tip averages at a place like this I assume would be a little better than average to a degree. Any one know anybody that works at Hooter's that can shine a little more light on the subject?

These three aren't...

Hoping to keep the lights on for Twins fans and to stave off a growing list of creditors, the owners of the Hooters restaurant on Block E have filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Co-owner John Marso said in documents filed March 31 in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Minneapolis that the Block E Hooters owes $1.8 million to more than a dozen creditors, including bankers, lawyers, food vendors, satellite TV operators and Hooters gear merchandisers....They own another Hooters in Burnsville that is delinquent on nearly $48,000 in property taxes for 2009. The brothers closed a St. Cloud Hooters in January 2009

One of my best friends and deer hunting buddies was the manager at the Hooters at the Mall of America (Bloomington, MN) for over three years (Which at the time was their highest grossing store)...He went on to be the GM of the Colorado region. Sitting around the campfire, I've heard more than I care to about Hooters. Suffice it to say, as the father of two "twenty-something" daughters, I don't patronize Hooters either.

I'm not asking people not to go to these places (BH and Hooters), I'm not even judging people who do...I'm just saying I don't care to. All this being said I will acknowledge that Dan is likely correct in that most of the women who work in these places probably don't give two hooters what people think. So it's all good.

Not all that different from almost every beer tub girl in the city being dressed in super low cut shirts. Corporate policy, I doubt it, but sex sells.

If all decisions boil down to economics, then you (and Kyle) have an argument. And for some workers, it might just. But, that doesn't mean those people coming at the issue from another angle (ethics, morals, personal beliefs systems) are riding some high horse.

As for what is more demeaning and less demeaning, that approach seems only useful if we are trying to justify the less demeaning through comparison to the more. At the end of the day, it's still demeaning.

Let's remember the beer they are selling, and what they are not selling, and who is buying it. Shit, even who's going through the front door. There's some local establishments I've moved away from because of this very practice. You don't see this $%^& going down at NABC, or BBC, or...

You are 100% correct, macrobrews everywhere. I'm talking the Bardstown Rd bars. I don't quite get the "who's going through the door" comment. Even the places serving good beer have beer tubs with half naked ladies serving swill. More often than not thier lines are longer than the ones to get a good draft brew.

My ex worked at Hooters for a short period of time after our divorce. (Yeah yeah I know. ) Still, even he would comment about the goofy accounting/management/bonus practices taking place in the stores. It really did sound more like an on-going frat party than any kind of real business enterprise. And no, I doubt there is much real profit in many of the locations. Mostly just "commodity availability".
