Re: Dak Shin Saturday night (and Los Gorditas)

Service has been okay for us. It seems like every time we've been, it's fine until it's time to get the bill. Then they just disappear. So we sit. And sit. And sit. Until we're able to hunt someone down in order to pay.

That plus another reason is why we haven't been in a while. My nearly 5yo has severe nut allergies. I explained that the the server and then simply ordered her a mango lassi.

The mango lassi came out with almonds on top. When I explained again that she had severe nut allergies, he said they were just on the top so she should be fine.

Yeah, that doesn't really work for me. And after the "you shouldn't take outside food into a restaurant" discussion on hotbytes, we've been loathe to go again. I get that "kids with allergies" were given something of a pass, but what am I supposed to do? Put a big sign on our table that explains that she's eating cheese sticks from home because we have allergy issues?

Again, not so much.

As stated upthread, DakShin does not bring a ticket to your table. You can wait all day, they're not bringing the ticket to your table. Just walk toward the register and they will be right there to ring you out.

That's very confusing then. One time I know they brought the ticket to our table and then took forever to return to take the money.

I've been there probably 15-20 times since they've been open. I can promise you that they keep a keen eye on the front door and customers walking to the register to pay. I've never waited more than seconds once I get to the register.

This discussion would give the impression that they are unaware of what is going on in their dining area. Maybe it's happened before. It's never even been close to the case anytime I've been there, from the very first visit to the most recent.

And I have never personally one time seen a server there take a check to the table, go ring up the transaction and take it back to the table.

Based on my experience, this place has consistency in their process (and food) that rivals a franchise. Of course I do dine on the buffet 99% of the time and have never ordered take out.

I dunno. I'm not making it up. Nor have we ever stood at the register and waited for a check. After being tracked down, the server didn't tell my husband to go to the register. We were brought a check along with a bowl of those little spice thingies. Several times that happened.

However, I don't think I've been there since last winter. Maybe last fall?

Joining the chorus.

Ditto for my wife and I. We've eaten many times at the buffet and had a sit down dinner there a handful of times. Never had any problem. Heck, most of the people there even know our children's names at this point.

You know what, I bet they do things different for dinner service. I have only been once for dinner and they may have done things different.

I just focus on going for the buffet. When I go, I go early so everything is fresh. They open at 11am I believe. I try to get there by 11:30 or 12pm at they latest. Of course, they always seem busiest on Saturdays and Sundays for lunch.

Yes, we've been four times for DINNER. The night I mentioned was the ONLY one that they did NOT bring the check to our table along with the spice boat. I've never been for lunch buffet, but I'm assuming that's when it is easier to go to the register.

I agree that it is definitely not spicy. Unfortunately, asking for a specific level of heat is not an option when you're eating from a buffet. I guess I understand why they keep it mild though.

I think the buffet is pretty darn spicy. I am not averse to some heat but I guess everyone has different levels.
