Casual yet hip is all relative -
I would recommend Cafe Lou Lou on sears avenue for casual bar atmosphere, busy but not too busy.
Jack's is as several have stated, good crowd, trendy, great food.
I like the Bar at Bristol Hurstbourne.
I also agree with Stephen on Limestone, but it probably depends on when you go. Great wine list!

OOPS - I inadvertently neglected to mention Havana Rumba - I really like the bar area. they have great Mojitos and Margaritas!

The nice little stretch of Sears ave. and Oechli Ave could really lend itself to a great evening with multiple dining and drinking opportunities. Not in the Hurstbourne area per-say, but should be close enough.

Can someone define "hip" for me ?, when I think of "hip" I think of a "new" concept or a "place to be seen" enviroment.

Personally neighborhood establishments are my preference :)

from Urban Dictionary:
Hip Definition:
Cooler than cool, the pinnacle of what is "it". Beyond all trends and conventional coolness. Not to be mistaken for "deck".
"Stay away from the tacky velvet-rope MTV frat-boy clubs on the beach. Check out this party downtown instead, it's gonna be hip."

In case you were wondering what "deck" means:

Deck:
hipster lingo for cool
"that shirt is deck."

I have come to the conclusion that "hip" is a relative term...my 75 year old mother probably has a different idea of what "hip" is than I do...just as Stephen has a different idea of what "hip" means than this 50-something geezer. You could also throw in the socio-economic aspect and really go wild on this one.

Me thinks the O.P. unintentionally led us down the garden path by not providing a suitable definition of "casual but hip"...resulting in (if nothing else) my stepping on Stephan's soft side.

The English dork in my has many comments but none of them are making sense in the translation from head to mouth. This commenting thing would be so much easier if language was more concrete!

I know what I think but, by previously given definitions, would 4th Street Live be hip?

Since everyone has their own interpretation of "hip", I'd encourage a person to try out a few places; sample ones that make them feel comfortable. One person's hip is another's distaste.

It's easy for me to get drawn into this debate and upset people who I enjoy and respect. Ya see, I have to work in this industry, you never have to. The question was 'casual yet hip.' The OP talked about being able to enjoy the company of their companion. No more perfect place than the big comfy leather sofas at Limestone. The other two have hightop seating. The cocktails are top-tier, as is the food.

I don't see what your problem is, as I have dined at all three, multiple times. Selena's will be the next to see me. This was my opinion and I stand behind it.

I'm a broken record on Limestone, and I agree with this description completely. Quiet, elegant and accessible.
