Robin,
Point taken - I haven't' yet found the time to educate myself as to the civic benefit of the YUM brand event.

I am pleased to hear that the proceeds with be harmonious with the original events' purpose.
My previous post was an emotional one; given the deep commitment I have to the Taste of Derby Festival.

More power to both events!
Pleading ignorance,
Mark

hey guys,
just another f.y.i.
yum is a huge supporter of dare to care. they give about $1,000,000.00 per year to d.t.c.. their sponsorship of the inaugual " taste of the derby" was done in good faith while also choosing the local charity that 'proceeds' go to. their choice was dare to care. i know that it is confusing, but, d.t.c. theoretically wins in both situations...
i would challenge the c.d."taste of the derby" to let us know, how much they raised for d.t.c. from their event. as was explained to me... c.d. 'did not know' that there was already 'a taste of the derby festival' and that they want to make this a travelling 'taste' event like the taste of the n.f.l.
our 'taste of the derby festival' has not failed to raise less than $100,000.00 the last 5 years... all done on the good graces, and benevolence, of local businesses and corporations.
our 'local ' taste is still $75.00 for 40 louisville restaurants... c.d.'s is $250.00 for about 10 restaurants from cities where they own tracks... $350.00 if you want to pay to be a v.i.p.
everyone who participates in our taste ( restaurants & spirits vendors) and all of the people who buy tickets to this event are considered v.i.p.'s!!!!
sorry for the rant, but dare to care and the taste of the derby festival are so near and dear to my heart!

Not ignorance at all, Mark. It IS confusing. I would also point out Andrew's commentary, wherein he makes some good and important points. The bottom line is that if both these events succeed, then Dare to Care will receive significant support in its efforts to help alleviate hunger in our community.

Can someone post the url for the Taste of Derby Festival site? I clicked-thru to it yesterday from the banner ad here, but now I can't find the ad and googling it isn't getting me to the right place. I want to send it to some friends...

Thanks,

Just proofed our contribution Monday. It's stellar. I think it's yummy enough to find a place on the menu at least during the warmer months. My measly Finlandia bloody contribution is nothing to sneeze at either, if I do say so myself. Hope ya'll bought some tix!

nora,
first let me thank you for getting el mundo back in the fold. i saw what you were serving on the participation form... think i will put you very close to us. bring a lot!!!
secondly... do not tempt fate and anger the bloody mary gods... it is supposed to be something similar to the one served at the restaurant. i will let you know that i am garnishing mine with a slipper tail lobster, 1 large sea scallop, with a small fountain pumping the bloody mary mix into oysters on the half shell!!!
i wish you luck! i am winning this year!

Just had to throw my .02 in. Being that I'm the Chef that will be representing the Kentucky Derby for the "Taste of Derby" ( several other Chefs submitted menus for the chance ) I have always been proud and always stepped up to the plate, when asked for any cause. I have been a part of "Taste of Derby Festival" for many years and will be there this year aswell. I am also proud to represent Louisville and have the honor to cook with some of these great Chefs. I will be cooking with Michelle Bersntein and Nancy Silverton on a different event Wednesday too. Both are for a great cause and I think the whole name thing was just a miscommunication. Everyone just chill! and look at what KY is doing for Dare to Care. I applaud Andrew Hutto for his big heart! He's a stand up guy. Also YUM, Woodford Reserve, Churchill Downs, and all other sponsors. The VIP is an early arrival with a gift bag and a chance to mingle with all the Chefs and celebrities. I look froward to supporting both events!

Buen provecho!

'k, now my garnish involves a bison rib after my dinner tonight. I'm envisioning Barney rubble on a train using a bison rib ala hutto as the track. Seductive yer trashy, just like hutto!

" I'm envisioning Barney rubble on a train using a bison rib ala hutto as the track. Seductive yer trashy, just like hutto! damn!" i am almost speechless... and i am honored by the compliment "seductive, yet trashy". i don't even have a comeback... but thanks for the great a.m. chuckle!
andrew
