Rapsberries and Blueberries are particularly high in antioxidants and delicious too! I can polish off a carton of raspberries in no time flat. I like to sprinkle them with a bit of powdered sugar for a healthy dessert.

My other favorites are fresh peaches, mangoes, and pomegranates (also very very high in antioxidants). Bananas are high in potassium and can help keep blood pressure low. I know that pineapple is also a good anti-inflammatory, but I'm allergic to it, so I avoid it.

One of my favorite fruit tasting experiences was trying a tree ripened apricot for the first time at a San Luis Obispo Farmers' Market...Man, I never knew how truly delicious and juicy an apricot could be... :D

Thanks for the thread. I was just trying to decide on some fruit today, and couldn't make up my mind. I'm inspired now...

Last week my two boys (ages one and seven) were feasting on frozen blueberries right out of the freezer. Blue mouths are happy mouths....

My sister brought some Cara Cara's to work the other day. I had never tried one and they were delicious. She bought them at the commissary at Fort Knox of all places. It's a mix between a blood orange and a tangerine. No seeds. Mega YUM.

Once I created the habit of eating fruit every morning (mix of strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries usually) and in place of potato chips with my sandwiches a list would be too time consuming. I LOVE fresh fruits off all kinds!

We always, always, always have fresh fruit on hand. It is a free food in my house, the kids need to ask permission for all snacks and they cannot eat them all the time, but fruit, carrots, and other veggies are usually ok anytime. I buy a lot of apples, Fuji, Braeburn, Gala, though i prefer Sonya and Honeycrisp (just discovered those.... yummy!) Grapes, fresh, sweet, and seedless....not green ones though. Strawberries, man.... those go quick around here, the kids go through a whole carton, easy. Just the other day i bought bananas, oranges, plums, and some nectarines. Can't forget peaches..... but we are picky about them..... hard to get a really perfect one. ohhhh, kiwi, my girls love it. mangoes.......mmmmmm

Basically, we like almost all fruits. If something is not eaten in time, i bake it into something. I didn't grow up with the health conscious thing, but i do want to give that to my children. Never too late....

another way i see it is like this..... a bag of chips is average about $2.50 and weighs less than a pound. But for $2.50 i can get more fruit than what is in the bag of chips, and it is healthier. Same thing with cookies/snack cakes etc. i can make it at home and it is tastier and cheaper. except for oreos..... i cannot make oreos, but that is another thread.......

this thread reminded me that i have a huge bag of blueberries in the freezer........thanks.....

That really is a great point. I got 8lbs of navel oranges on sale at Kroger for 3.99. About the same as a big bag of name brand chips but so much more by weight of course so much healthier.

What are opinions of some of the best places to get good fruits (selection, quality, etc) at good prices?

I enjoy all fruits pretty much but really love pairing them with other stuff. I love fresh melons but REALLY love melon and perchouto (how the heck do you spell that?) Pineapple is great but I like it even better on pizza. Apricots with pork loin.
But if I had to pick one just all by itself I'd say a perfectly ripened pear. Trouble is, I never can seem to get it right. They're always too hard or almost rotten. It's like a pear is only perfectly ripened for about 23 minutes in a specific day and I'm always at work then or something.

I love blackberries and apples. I especially love apples dipped in Private Selection organic crunchy peanut butter.

Thanks for mentioning pomegranates! How could I forget? They are my newest obsession! If you have an oral fixation or strong urge to snack, they keep your mouth entertained for a long time and they are very refreshing!

Haha! Yeah, I know. But seriously, as someone who loves snacking while watching TV for example, pomegranates are great because they take forever to eat and they're so good for you. I think they are my new popcorn alternative. :)

Pauls Fruit Market for standard stuff and usually Meijer or an ethnic shop (Choi's) for the more exotic.

I found passion fruit and cactus pear at Meijer last week and Jack Fruit at Choi's.

My husband has constant issues with gout--doesn't matter what he's eating.

Cherries are supposed to be good for it, so I started buying the frozen ones at Kroger. I FLIPPIN LOVE THEM. If you like sweet cherries and you have never tried the ones at Kroger, go get some now.
