Since you brought it up, Robin, can we have an offline NOT on a weeknight? Just doesn't work for me except on Thursdays...

Adam, sure, there's no rule about offlines except that they generally form themselves. The only small problem I can see is that Fridays and Saturdays are generally the busiest restaurant nights, and it might be hard to get in a largish group. But we can work that out. Once the Pig opens, if an offline evolves, we can sure toss the idea of a weekend get-together out there.

Still under construction...any word on an opening?

I found this first: http://blindpigbar.com/index.html, then realized it was in New York.

I figured the offline "rules" weren't set in stone, lol. This place does seem like an ideal place for an offlin, if only because of the name.

Very interesting! I'm not a beer drinker, but I find it hard to imagine how the proprietors think they will garner local support without a single local beer. Looks like a big "whoops" to me.

Gayle,

I am not sure that I agree with that. I like to support local businesses and I like local beer. However, the goal of many a beer drinker is to taste and compare different beers from different regions to see how they stack up. You could take the exact same ingredients here and in England and make the exact same recipe beer, and come up with similar yet different outcomes due to water hardness, climate, etc, etc. We as beer drinkers like to find these little nuances and experience them first hand.

So in short, the opportunity to taste these beers in a local environment is a good thing for us. I am glad not to see the mass marketed beers being touted. If I want a glass of "water", I'll go around the corner to Sergio's

Three Floyds is Indiana. But I agree, some NABC and BBC woulda rounded out the list nicely.

Pete, I think Gayle was referring to the fact that there is no Cumberland, BBC, or NABC on the list, not the fact that there is no mass market swill.

But, as someone else said, this is only a "teaser." The full list could include the locals.

What's the Blind Pig's sourcing plan when it comes to food?

I understand the point, and appreciate it. My assertion was that beer drinkers will not overlook this watering hole because the teaser list didn't include local products. It offers some high quality, tasty beers that many of us would take pleasure in.

My 2 cents:

I can see both sides. I'd bet they will have have local beers when they open, but it is not a big deal if they don't. I prefer to drink my local beers in the buildings they are made anyway.
