I am ashamed to say that we had never eaten there until last year. We always select an expensive meal for my husband's birthday (expensive for us). (Miss New Orleans House for that meal.) Anyway, wonderful. The whole experience. Loved the dated interior. I miss that about the Louisville restaurants. I love upscale, disheveled, neighborhood bar, whatever, but I miss the 50's look. When we were in Maine a couple of years ago, the restaurants were 'dated' - I loved that. (Food matched the decor. We are so fortunate here.)
We will go back to Del Friscos. Sorry but it might only be once a year. Of all the steak places we have tried - Mortons was the worst and most of it had to do with the disinterested server. No, we haven't been to Rubys. Locally, we don't order steaks out. We cook them on the grill. We order other things we when go out to eat. Food we don't fix at home. Maybe the quality of the steak isn't the same, but the fixins are fairly easy to purchase and prepare.
But when it comes to other meals, ethnic meals, I let someone else do the work. Plus Louisville was a steak town for years and has since progressed.
Miss Melrose Inn, Chicken Trail Inn (was that the name of it?). It was very nice as a grade school kid to be able to have a filet. That was the place we went to after church quite often. Miss the Luau Room. Miss the Frischs and Ranch Houses that were near my house. The Blue Boars. The OLD HOUSE. Miss the Old House. I would ride the bus down on Saturdays (then it was called Air Base route:-), go to the downtown library, then the Old House and have the Garibaldi salad. Or the filet. This was when I was in high school. I still have one of their menus. Miss it.
