Seconded. Also, although it's a chain, it's entirely local, with all its properties in the two-state Louisville area.

Add The Fish House at Winter and Barret. That Green River style breading is da bomb, and now they have haddock, too. (Footnote ... okay, they describe their fish product as scrod, not cod, so it's outside the specific criteria of this thread. But do check out the haddock. Or the scrod.)

Steve I was waiting for you to chime in on this one, hell I do not know what kept me so long ?

Far Easteners ?.. Get their fix ?.. The right way ?..

Yes I agree the Fishery has a good sandwich, but I do have to disagree with those have tried in the past theory.
You might have to ask the" Far Southeners " what they think about Mike Linnig's while you are at it.
Or ask the not quite" Far Easteners " but kinda East of the city on the Ohio River what they think about our Cod Sandwich ( perfected breaded to order )

Done, small rant is over
There are numerous places in town that have solid Cod fish sandwiches. My preference lies with The Fishery and their unwillingness to sacrifice quality regardless of market conditions, very few in this area have been so un-wavering, when the prices have gone up.

Mike Linnig's

I tried it and was not impressed. Perhaps it was an off nite. I'll go back when they open for the season.

Mike Linnig's is a fun place to go in the summertime for the shady fish-fry atmosphere and picnic tables. The food quality is not up to the other suspects that have been mentioned in this thread. Sorry. I want to be more impressed, but I've seen it decline over the past decade, possibly with the arrival of a new family generation in management.

I have been three times and it wasn't good at all.

Off topic, but the grouper sandwich at Havana Rumba is my favorite fish sandwich in town.

Keep your "Green River"...I'll take the Lake Erie (Yellow) Perch Sammich at The New Direction Annnnny-time. Again outside the specific criteria but what the hell.

Fish House (jalapeno tartar sauce - YUM!)
Cunningham's (not the same allure since the brothel burned down, but tasty just the same)
Market St. Fish House on our sunny side (absorbed by Dave's joint across the street, I think)
Clarksville Seafood
