That's true, but it's just because they are deficient in the enzyme, lactase, needed to digest the milk. Raw milk naturally contains the enzyme, just like raw fruits and vegetables contain the enzymes needed to digest them.

Lactase is produced by the linings of the small intestine, it is NOT contained in milk. If your body doesnt produce lactase, you cant digest it properly, whether raw or pasteurized. My small intestine produces lactase, for 60% of the people in the world, it doesnt.

As long as my body continues to digest milk and dairy, I will continue to enjoy them. I love milk, cheese, ice cream, etc. Does my body NEED it? No, but my body doesn't NEED chocolate cake, or Oreo cookies, either, and damn, do they taste good.

I could scour the interwebz and find all the benefits for Raw Milk Vs Pasteurized. Or, trust my own body that's been raised on Pasteurized for 36 years.

Keep your science. I'll have another glass of Pasteurized Milk in a frosty mug.

OK... google off it is. :)
While most of these vary a bit, it seems to show that an average serving is between 20 to 35 mg calcium. Again Im not saying it has as much as milk, but it does show that there are sources of calcium other than consuming baby cow food.

One thing of interest I found at this site.....
"Grapefruit is very helpful in removing or dissolving inorganic calcium which may have formed in the cartilage of the joints, as in arthritis, as a result of an excessive consumption of devitalized white flour products. Fresh grapefruit contains organic salicylic acid, which aids in dissolving such inorganic calcium in the body."

Edit to add that Anne is now yelling at me to leave the computer and get back to the greenhouse. Bah work...
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

There's at least one group in town that gets raw milk together. If you can't find them through the Weston A Price people, send me a PM. Though it's none of the government's business, the FDA feels that cracking down on co-ops is a priority. Cracking down on filthy, dangerous slaughterhouses is not.

I don't agree with the Weston A Price people, but I can put you in touch with them.

Sure. Because the FDA allows Slaughterhouses to do whatever they'd like while only concerned about Raw Milk and small time business. It's all a conspiracy. Where's my tin-foil hat?

~ Raw Milk is illegal in KY, right?

Perhaps I am the only one that feels odd about persons pointing out their willingness to help others break the law on a public bulletin board.

I suspect it is only illegal to sell raw milk, but I'm not a lawyer and am not familiar with the nuances of Kentucky laws and regulations. I've heard that "raw milk advocates" can, and do, pool their resources and purchase a cow from a farmer who then gives them the raw milk.

Raw milk is absolutely not illegal. Selling raw milk is. The co-ops do not sell milk; members share ownership of the cows.

An Ohio Co-op was raided. The agents came in with guns out, in front of an unarmed family. Their crime? Giving a dozen free eggs to an undercover agent who repeatedly asked to purchase them. When he wouldn't accept the fact that the eggs weren't for sale, they gave him some to get rid of them.

Your right, pointing out that the FDA has seriously misplaced priorities is only for the tin foil hat crowd.

The FDA isnt right all the time but they arent wrong all the time either. However keep in mind what lobbies keep them funded. Diary and Corn are chief amongst them.
I am the original Mike G, never mind the impostor.

I am kind of a big deal.

Jenny H wrote:What are you thoughts on drinking raw milk? Do you think there is a health benefit to it over homogenized, pasteurized milk you can buy at grocery stores? Also, is there a local source to buy it?

Back to the original post....

I know very little about the benefits, but I've used raw milk for several years to make my own cheese ( typically mozzarella). Haven't done it for a year or so, but you used to be able buy it at the Rainbow Blossom in New Albany ( I think that's Charlestown road). Laws are different in Indiana.
