Yeah. The pictures truly tell the story. A friend of mine remembers it and told me it was a beautiful house not all that long ago, and it is confirmed by the pix. If you do nearly zero maintenance on an old house, and leave it vacant for a decade, it will deteriorate.
Sounds like the guy is facing massive fines. I highly doubt he'll get jail time.
More than anything else, it is just a shame.,,,he may get his wish, it may need to be demo'd at this point. Restoration will be extremely expensive. Time will tell......(sorry for the cliche)
Oh, and as for comparing Prague with Louisville, of course we're not as old as some of the buildings there, but we do have some old ones. And if we demo them and build cookie cutters, guess what? We'll never have centuries old buildings. We do have buildings that are over 100 years old here now. I was just on Belgravia Ct. last night and those buildings will last centuries. I guess I'm just philosophically opposed to our disposable mentality in our society. Whether it is cups or houses. Don't use disposable cups (buy a mug). Don't use disposable houses (maintain it). I know people don't like being told what to do, but we live together in a community, and sometimes people kind of need to be told what to do. (just like children) Part of living in a city, a society, a community is listening to the people around you and obeying accepted societal norms. We call them laws. Not everyone likes them. They're not all perfect. But they are important to have.
Peace....
