The main question is it safe? If it's safe and the ammonia serves a purpose and cooks out of the food and prevents food illness then it's serving a purpose. I don't see any side effects mentioned and I'm sure billions of pounds of this meat have been consumed.

And at least we have a choice. I'm sure that if it's safe that the millions of people that are starving around the world would love to have this meat (treated or untreated). They don't have a choice, they have nothing to eat at all...

Some shocking studies have concluded that the US wastes half of it's food, which is ridiculous considering that would probably feed most if not all of the starving people in the world (link below)

Thanks for the recommendations, John and Michael! Fast Food Nation was something I wanted to see when it came out, but I just never got around to it. The Jungle by Upton Sinclair blew my mind when I read it in high school.

My bro lived in China for over ten years (he's in Hong Kong now) and you're allowed to go check out the kitchens when eating out. Of course, tourists would never do it, and most locals don't either. But he speaks fluently, and doesn't mind causing a wee bit of trouble).

Wouldn't that be cool if you could just say, hey, I want to see the kitchen, here in the USA?

I don't think they like when you do it (in China), but it is part of being in business. You get to see the kitchen! Makes sense, really.

I think of this because putting ammonia in your burgers is pretty nasty, but so is the other stuff going on in a lot of kitchens.....(you probably don't want to see)

Cheers.....
