I honestly find it quicker (although maybe not more "green") to jump on I-64 at Grinstead and race out to the Snyder, then around to Bardstown Road to get to True Thai (or Sake Blue, etc.) It's probably about 20 minutes that way, Just about any local-streets option is round-about, whether over Grinstead to Willow to Bardstown, or over to St. Matthews and then out Breckinridge through Hikes Point to Bardstown or through Seneca Park to Bowman field and then over Brighton to Bardstown, involves so much more traffic that it's a real disincentive. From Cave Hill to Cherokee and Seneca to Bowman Field, the road obstacles on the south tend to funnel us over to St. Matthews or downtown, or even over to Indiana or out to Hurstbourne or Springhurst even, rather than to the south.

That's all great but I didn't really mean it as a "Robin it's not that far for you in particular.". Clearly it's not convenient for everyone but people tend to see something like 'out past gene snyder' and just generally think that's too far out even if it really isn't. In fact, as I said, that's what we do too and we've been several times. I worry that this perception leads to poor traffic for a place we really like. Hence the statement - more of a general one than a directed one.

Good point! Sort of like Westport General Store. It's really not that far! :)

From Crescent Hill Library to Sake Blue:

10.9 miles via Breckinridge/Bardstown Rd

20.5 miles via 64 to 265

I don't think under any circumstance the interstate route would be faster. Traffice flows fairly well on Breck and Bardstown except eve rush hour. And during that time 64 and 265 also have bad traffic.

Let me explain: I learned to drive in Louisville but then spent a few years getting my graduate education in LA. I know one way to drive across town, and that's to get on the expressway system at the nearest entrance, stay on it, and get off at the exit nearest your destination, even if this route is not a straight line. At an educated guess, there are 25 traffic signals along your suggested route, and the speed limits are 35 at most (although I do understand that people typically exceed them along the more open stretches of Breck and Bardstown).

Along the 64/Snyder route there are ZERO stop lights until the bottom of the Snyder ramp at Bardstown, and the limits are 55 and 65 (again, generally faster if you go with the flow of traffic.)

Twenty, schmenty. For me it's still a no-brainer. I hate waiting in traffic.

Following up, Google Maps guesstimates your first option thus:
Driving directions to Sake Blue Japanese Restaurant
Suggested routes
Breckenridge Ln/KY-1932 S and Bardstown Rd
11.5 mi 23 mins

That last feature is the one that grabs me. It's no more than 23 mins and probably less to go around the expressways. Yes, it's a huge waste of gas, but at least I drive a fairly "green" car. Same amount of time, half the hassle? Easy pick for me!
