This list is not totally in left field. There are many on this list that would be on a top 100 I believe. And also quite a few that wouldn't.

While some of these would surely be on that list ...some of the rankings are ridiculous !!!! I don't think anyone can REALLY take this list seriously at all...just a JOKE !!!!!!

Is there any way it could be done?

Brian, perhaps it could be done; remembering that it would reflect the tastes of this forums membership..... and only those that respond.

As for UrbanSpoon.com, they call it a "Top 100" list; but it would more accurately be called a users favorite list. The rankings are based on a simple point system with each positive vote carrying a weight of 1 and a negative vote carrying the weight of -2. The more points, the higher the ranking. Therefore, it really reflects the places where UrbanSpoon users dine and like. They do have numerous sub catagories that would be closer to a "Best of " list for that catagory. Anyone can vote for any restaurant (presumably you have dined there) and any user can request that a restaurant be added; so an owner may not know they are even on this site. Yes, if you identify yourself as an owner they offer advertising options, but you do not need to do any advertising to stay listed. They most certainly are trying to be the site to refer to as people look for new places in their hometown or when traveling. A "Top 100" equaling the 100 very best quality restaurants is not what they are really trying to do; poorly labeled, but eye catching.

Yes, thank you, it makes more sense. Hence the reason Zagnut awards best Steak Awards to Tumbleweed and Outback Steakhouse.

I understood that the list was from input from user ratings. Again, I don't see it just as a ranking although, they are rank ordered but more of which are the 100 best spots in town. I just went through the list and counted about 30 that I would personally throw out. So if users get 60-70 of the top 100 right ten that's not too bad in my opinion. So, I wouldn't say it's a joke but a good start for discussion.

Zagnut? um um, love them. But as this age (not telling) they would pull my teeth out!

I think you can get some at a "retro candy" store!

The list looks pretty ridiculous to me. But most "best of" lists usually are. They're often some combination of a popularity contest and someone who doesn't know much about the subject making decisions.

Perhaps Louisville Hotbytes should come up with our own 100 recommended list. And then alphabeticalize it so nobody can feel slighted. Well, I guess getting left off would bum some people out, but I bet no forum members would get left off. I'm not volunteering for the project, by the way.. :D

Nimbus. As a ranking it is obviously way off and doesn't make sense. But as I mentioned earlier, if a alphabetical list were made of the top 100 I'd say at least 60 or so of these spots would make the list. So as a list of just top 100 it has a good base, IMO.
