Becky dear, in the 3 or so years that I have been on HotBytes, I have found some of the most incredable, down-to-earth, crazy, and food loving people ... you included, or course. Just remember, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger ...

Tday, 6:00 (OH MY GOD) AM: Bird thawed, dressings (yes, 2-Sausage and Fruit), Yams set to rumble; 6 pumpkin pies prepped (was 7--we had to try one of them), cranberry sauce made, pans ready to get the little frozed yeast rolls and baked at the appropriat time, 2 sweet potato pics ready, and the making for a fresh pear cobbler, tables set up, Silver polished, napkins ready to be folded, box of Zin in the fridge. I'm to the point of "If it ain't done, it ain't gonna happen"

Suzi - the troops are gathering around 6 this evening.....

We are eating at Blackstone Grill at 11:30.......hmmmmm.......but Richard brought a small cooked turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce from Fresh Market "for sandwiches". I am not sure I will get him to get move once we get home. Sounds great though!! :D

Happy Thanksgiving all - while enjoying family, friends and great food, give a thought and a prayer for our troops away from home and our public safety employees that work today to keep us safe. I may not be out "on the street" anymore, but my heart is still there. Funny, after years of working every holiday, now I miss it!!

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

My fellow colleagues at Metro 911 were recalling all of our memorable Thanksgiving runs made over the years in whatever emergency service we came from. My favorite story happened right around the time frying turkeys was just gaining popularity. I worked in an east end fire station where most runs on Thanksgiving were food on the stove or alarm sounding runs. This particular Thanksgiving day a family decided to try to fry a turkey themselves. A new fryer was purchased, filled with oil and then lit. The peanut oil came to a roiling boil and then the turkey was plopped in......22 pounder....frozen solid. Turkey apocalypse! Luckily very few injuries on scene.

Another Thanksgiving we made a fire alarm sounding. Pulling up in front of the house black smoke is clearly visible through the windows. We gained entry and found a turkey shaped charcoal briquette in the oven. Folks had set the turkey in the oven to roast.....and then went shopping for the day!

However you spend your day, I hope it is a happy day blessed with friendship and bonhomie. To you and yours Happy Thanksgiving!

And if you need a helping hand today just call us at Metro 911, we are working everyday and our extended family there will be having our potluck feast.......but we won't miss your call! Stay safe.

Happy Thanksgiving to all the forumites and their loved ones.
Since Susanne and I opened the Shady Lane Cafe over four years ago, louisvillehotbytes has been a constant in my daily wind down time, and kept me in the know on the scene. So many of us who have businesses of our own don't get out as much as would wish, and this forum is full of interesting, witty, biting, and mostly good natured conversation on what is a thriving, creative bunch of foodies and establishments. Peace to all of you from our family to yours, and I hope all of us can find some blessing and thanks for something in our stressed and demanding lives.
Love,
Susanne and Bill Smith

Becky and I are very thankful for all of our friends and acquaintances here on the forum. You've all played a part in making our move here to Louisville the best decision we've ever made. Thank you all and have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Happy Turkey Day everyone (or Unturkey, if that is your preference)...

I'm resting, watching some football, and preparing mentally for a 630 pm get-together with in-laws. Joy. Haha....The highlight of my day so far was teaching my one year old (almost 1 1/2) to say "stretch." (he pronounces it like "shresh." Mom was at yoga this morning (845 yoga class - those people are crazy), and I was just explaining (and demonstrating) where she was. Smart kid picked it up instantly, raising his arms way up in the air as he said it. Very very cute. (my rolling over backwards each time turned it into a fun game for him, which he gladly copied). Kids are so cool. Holidays really are all about family. I feel lucky. Nothing is perfect, but I'm grateful for what I have.

Cheers everyone, hope you're all having a great day. Peace....

Thanksgiving story of my day: Twin 5 yr old nephews are eating dinner when one announces "I once farted under the covers". My Dad says "I don't think that's something to talk about during Thanksgiving". The other nephew states "Yea, he's right. We should be saying I love you and Happy Thanksgiving or something".

Whew...I had a house full today...I served
A really nice selection of Hoers De oeuvre's
Herb Roasted Turkey
Honey Glazed Ham
Green Chili Corn Pudding
Whipped Sweet Potatoes with Bananas and Honey
Roasted Brussels with Bacon and Balsamic
White Castle Stuffing(Yeah, I did it and it was a HUGE success)
Mashed Taters and Giblet Gravy
BBQ Green Beans(Bacon and a little BBQ sauce)
Cranberry Orange Relish
Pumpkin and Apple Pie with Whipped Cream...and last but not least
8 bottles of wine and a case and 1/2 of beer.
I'm pooped...But even though my guests were as pleased as I was, I like to step back and remember all of those troops who are over there doing what they do.

TO ALL OF YOU SERVING IN THE MILITARY, I WANT TO THANK YOU!!!!!!

That is a totally delightful "true to life" vignette, Kyle. Thank you for sharing.

 It was our pleasure.....as I told you, nobody should be alone on a holiday when this house has good food and good wine in it. And I'm sure my dear grandmother was watching over things yesterday and just gloating. She would have been tickled to death about your Martha Stewart comment...she loved watching her shows. She always said that Thanksgiving was her favorite holiday, and I come to understand what she meant.
