From "Laugh and Be Happy" by Randy Newman:
"Now the country that we're living in
You mean the good ol' USA?
That's right!
It's never been about keeping you out
It's about inviting you in and letting you play"

Used to be we weren't too afraid of the folks walking off the boat. Heck, there weren't any real limits on who entered the country until WWI. Before 1894 you just walked off the boat and went to find work. There weren't any immigration officers then.

The Good Eats episode where AB "makes" haggis is hilarious - overdramaticized and his accent is terrible, and he knows it.

Ye need to have a wee bit o' the whisky to understand the haggis, lass. 6 or 8 ounces at least, should do.
(said in my best Sean Connery imitation voice)

I would therefore argue that understanding other cultures begins with understanding their alcoholic beverage of choice.

I'm OK with that! I love a dram (or two) (or three) of scotch now and again. And I guess if I can eat headcheese I could try haggis.
