THIS. Sometimes I want a hamburger, sometimes I want a hotdog. Sometimes I want La Rosita, sometimes I want Qdoba. They are that different in my mind. I still take issue with the idea that Qdoba is somehow "blah" or flavorless but it's an argument I can at least accept becuase it's based on judgement of qdoba itself and the quality of their food, not because it isn't something it's not trying to be.

I've never had Chipotle's, and am fine with Qdoba, but I don't go often. I ran their nutritional calculator, and ONE burrito with griled chicken, rice, black beans, and salsa (i.e., no cheese, no sour cream, no guac) is 900 calories and 2280 mg sodium (though it is also high in protein, fiber, and some other good stuff).

Toss is cheese, sour cream, and guac, and you now have an astounding 1170 calories and 2770 mg sodium.

Obviously, you don't have to eat the whole thing, but if you do, it's a caloric and sodium overload.

That said, I enjoy one every now and then.

Speaking of Las Gorditas, it's been gone the last few times I have been by hoping for a gordita. Anyone have an idea what happened to them?

I have to agree with Jessica... Qdoba and those type chains don't really go into the "Mexican" column in my brain.

I happen to really like Qdoba for what it is...but it's not mexican. I had the misfortune to go to Chipotle twice up north because it was the only thing close to a training facility I had to go to. I tried two different things and while the portions were grand, the flavor was very, very bland. (too much Dr. Suess lately  ) It was bad enough that I wouldn't go to any of the burrito chain things for quite awhile b/c everyone raved about how great Chipotle was and if that was "the best" this cuisine(?) had to offer, it must have been really bad at other places.

I don't think of Chipotle or Qdoba as competitors to Taquerias, but as competitors to McD or BK. Especially when we're on the road, we may opt for one of them instead of a burger drive-through. I think the burritos are too big at Qdoba, but I can deal with a Qdoba burrito with black beans and tomatillo salsa. I've only been to Chipotle once (isn't there one near Man O' War in Lexington?), but it was okay.

Adrian Baldwin wrote:Can't see why anyone would "despise" a place like Qdoba. What's not to like about grilled steak/chicken, your favorite toppings, wrapped up in a tortilla, drenched in Cholula, and loaded w/ 3 cheese queso sauce?

I love an authentic Taqueria as much as anyone, but that's not always an option........Qdoba satisfies my lunch burrito craving just fine.

Kinda like eventhough I love a great backyard-style grilled burger, sometimes a Big Mac sounds even better...

I think their rice tastes like "plastic"...A big fat rice glob inside a raw tortilla. It's just a personal taste thing...I'll take Arby's over Qudoba every time.

Adam C wrote:Anyone ever been to one? A few of our employees are from Cleavland (where Chipotle must be everywhere) and they rave about it. All I know is that Chipotle used to be owned by McDonald's and now they are not and its sort of like Q-doba. We were discussing how one should enter the old Just Fresh location on Bardstown. What's the deal with Chipotle?

Adam,

We had a Chipotle's in the town I lived in in MN. It was the hot ticket when it first opened but has slowly faded down to something more luke warm. Personally I never cared for them at all and probably wouldn't visit one again even if it opened up right next door. The concept is good but the execution is below average.
