Going to make every effort to attend. I have a wedding the day before (doing the cake) and Ithink I might try to squeeze in a dessert of some sort. I got my daughter tix for Tyler Perry at 3pm so I might end up bringing my granddaughters. Might be interesting! LOL

Where can one donate money/food for this cause if not attending the event?

Kyle,

Your the second (or was it third) person to ask a question along those lines. I've been out of town tending to a family emergency for the past day or so but will look into it when I get back to town tomorrow. My thought is that it would be nice to donate money either through or on behalf of Hotbytes...Any thoughts Robin ?

Steve, first, I hope the family emergency is nothing serious and that all is well.

I don't mind us being some kind of middle-person for donations, but I think it would be ideal if we decide for certain on a beneficiary - such as Kentucky Harvest - then people can make out checks to them but send it to me (I'll provide an address privately), or toss them in a bucket at the party, and then we can deliver the donation all in one basket.

Okay, thanks, Ed. I lost track of whether that was definite or tentative, but it sure works for me.

I will be coming with my Mom's Hambeans in a pot (I'll let you guess how many days old) and a red-tomato cream sauce cold pasta salad. And my child/punk/nerd husband Wyatt, so you can see he does in fact exist.

It would be great if those who are bringing a dish that needs to stay warm, to use a standard size full or 1/2 foil pan so they will fit in the chafers!

Dan,

I really hope you can make it...I've wanted to meet you for some time.

Also, your idea about the standard full and half sized foil pans in genius. That's exactly why we keep guys like you on the payroll...You can expect a little something extra in the ol' pay check next month.

I'll make sure everything Becky and I bring is in the for-mentioned size on the assumption that you (or anyone else for that matter) can provide chafing dishes, etc.

Dan, i am not "in the know" with the standard size full or 1/2 foil pan. When i am at the store looking at all the different disposable pans, what should i be looking for?

Sometimes I forget not everyone works in the "Bizz'
A full size pan (also called a hotel pan) is 12" x 20".
A half size pan is 12" x 10".
They can be anywhere from 2" to 10" deep.
You should be able to find them at the grocery or at GFS Marketplace.
No Worries though, I will bring plenty with me :D

A little trivial information.....
Every piece of commercial kitchen equipment uses 12" x 20" as a standard insert size.
Other sized pans are all variations based on the standard full pan (1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 1/6, 1/9) and fit in the space using adaptor bars. Most coveted by your average line cook would be the 6"deep 1/6th size. Almost every place I've ever worked at never seems to have enough of these.

Here's a nifty diagram showing different sized pan configurations.

I'm about 93.5% sure we'll be coming and I look forward to talking BBQ and football with you.
I'm not sure what I'm going to bring foodwise yet, but it will probably be some sort of meat entree'.
I'm thinking about some sort of pork roast right now based upon what I've seen what others are bringing, but that is subject to change depending on my mood and as the menu progresses.

Re: HotBytes Potluck Dinner to Benefit KY Harvest - 11/15

by Steve P » Sat Oct 31, 2009 9:49 am

Sorry about not updating this post...We've been in the mountains watching the leaves turn colors and the sun go down behind Grandfather Mtn, NC.

I wanted to put out a list of folks who have indicated they plan to attend but before doing so wanted to put out another call to ALL Hotbyters to join in the fun. From a purely selfish perspective, there are a lot of board "regulars" the Becky and I have yet to meet in person and we'd love to break bread with any and all of you. I'm sure we're not the only ones who feel this way.

Here's the guest list to date, if I've forgotten anyone or neglected to indicate friends or family members who plan to attend please feel free to update this list:

Ed Vermillion and Family
Steve and Becky P (Mashed Taters, Stuffed Cabbages and BBQ Meatloaf)
Jackie R (A "Good" Salad)
Marsha and John (Bourbon Creamed Corn)
Robin and Mary
Gayle DeM
Carol and Bob C
Roger (Beer)
Linda and Mark B
Dan Thomas and Family
Becky M and Family (maybe - maybe not)
Steve R and Family (Dessert and Cornbread)
Carolyn Davis and Granddaughters
Regan H (Ham Beans)
Carla G
Suzi and Richard Bernert (tentative)
Kurt R. (tentative)
Gary F (app and a side dish)
Stephen D (Food novelty, etc)
TP Lowe and Fran

My intent is to be there, but with the kids sports schedules it is hard for me to give an answer at this time. So like Dan, I am a maybe at this point.

Steve - If you would like linen for the tables I would be happy to donate even if I can not attend. Send me a PM with table sizes and the needs. I will get with you on where to take the linen.
