I'm up for this, though would prefer it to be on a Friday or Saturday. But, it's my preference.

Ohhhhhhh come on Kyle. Yeah, so you hired a few ugly ones last year but don't be so hard on yourself. At least the one with the nose ring and the big ol' "tramp stamp" was kinda cute.

I would love to come and bring a dish, but will be less inclined to drive to Westport. No offense to Will, I love going out there to eat, but for something like this, if you want to take a cab home,it could be costly! LOL As to locales, there's also, Clifton Center and any number of women's clubs (Crescent Hill, St Matthews)??? If it's all being done to raise can goods (for whom, Kentucky Harvest?) then maybe some place will be willing to donate the space or cut a deal for the cause! "The Louisville Hotbytes Fall Ball Food Harvest" Anyone work at a printing company? Or, was this simply for die hard Byters?? Just questions!!! LOL

I have never noticed if a stripper was ugly. They have a face? Who knew?

I'm interested in coming. I haven't done much cooking on a large scale since I sold my pizza shop... but...

Steve, since you have taken charge to organize, I think you should pick the venue you like. A new one to keep in mind is www.soireeky.com ( I like supporting Oldham County businesses ) and I know you are in Buckner, so it would be easier for you to coordinate the closer you are.

Date wise, and day wise, I'd like to see November 13th :) That is a Friday night. The weekend needs a good kick off party and this one looks like it has potential. Plus, my girlfriend is going to be out of the town on the 14th and has otherwise locked up the first weekend with her birthday... and the following week gets into Thanksgiving.

I'm also curious about ticket prices being 20-25 dollars so everyone doesn't have to worry about cooking and maybe cater some food in. What about a soup bar? Some potato soup, chili, chicken tortilla, veggie, white chili -- heck why not just do a chili cook off!

I've been to St. Matthews Women's Club for several occasions. It's nice enough, kitchen, stage, etc. I remember they only let you serve beer and wine in the liquor department (perfect for me, but maybe not for some). I noticed a "For Sale" sign out front about 3 weeks ago. Who knows - it may be an opportune time to rent!! And...that's about as central as you can get.

The canned-goods contribution is a great idea - my friends and I used to do a Hat Party every fall and charged at the door ($ + non-perishables). Dare to Care was always the recipient - they would usually send a rep to the party and we would have them help judge the "hats" - it was a blast!

Is this getting traction? I'd love to block out a date before the calendar starts filling up.

Scott, etc.

The short answer is "a little" but probably not enough to pursue at this point in time. I was really hoping to get after this this week and somehow make it happen but unfortunately have been down with a toothache for the past two days. I've not completely given up hope and will look into it a little further once the Vicodin wears off in a day or two.

I love the soup/chili bar idea, but like it better if everyone cooks. We have a whole lot of great cooks on here, and it'd be alot cheaper than buying tickets.

Agreed. I was sort of stunned by Scott's suggestion and had been laying back to see if I was the only one. I kind of felt this group of foodies wanted to get together and cook for each other ... but what do I know?

I'm also not certain whether his Oldham County net idea would work comfortably with the idea of us bringing in food.

I wanted to take an opportunity to try and articulate what I had in mind with this suggestion, what the motivation was and share the feedback I've gotten...Before doing so I should let you know that I am currently (again) holed up in an Oklahoma City no-tell-motel, this time with a grade AAA toothache. I'm in the process of trying to decide if I want to submit myself to a third world Oklahoma-stan dentist, make my way back home to KY in a Vicodin induced haze and go to a real dentist or just put my head in large vice and tighten it until my brain oozes out my ears. So if this post ends up not making a whole lot of sense...well there's your explanation.

Anyway...Becky and I have really enjoyed all of the off lines we've attended but it's been our observation that a lot of people who might have really enjoyed attending these activities might not have done so due to budgetary constraints and/or family responsibilities. Speaking from a purely selfish perspective the end result is that we've not been able to meet in person a lot of the interesting people we've "met" on the forum, most of whom have been so gracious in welcoming us to Kentucky. We would love to just thrown open the doors of our home to everyone but I'm sure everyone can understand that that probably wouldn't be very practical. In our mind the next best thing would be to find an inexpensive hall (i.e. Legion, VFR, German-American) and have a little (more or less) "pot luck" dinner open to anyone who wanted to participate...NO "throw downs", NO contests, just a bunch of good folks sharing a good time and some good home cooked food. I think...and based on the feedback I've gotten a lot of people feel the same, in order to be successful the cost per person needs to be at or under $10 per person AND the location needs to be as centralized as possible. Also in keeping with the giving spirit of other off lines (and given that the holidays are coming) I was also hoping to we could do something where we collected canned food donations for a local food shelf.

Where we stand now is that if I can get this tooth thing under control I'll be happy to throw my energies behind making this happen but as it stands right now I'm not so sure I haven't let the window of opportunity close on this idea (unless of course we could do it sometime between T-giving and Xmas)... Another thought is that instead of a "Fall Ball" we could do a "Spring Fling"...Same concept, just a bit more of a lead time.

Well, there ya have it...First time I've ever written a dissertation under the influence of pain killers. :D

BTW, a shout out to Will Crawford at Westport General. Will offered to host a "Fall Ball" at his restaurant at a very affordable price...I don't think we should rule out this generous offer but based on feedback from others the location might not be centralized enough to draw enough people to pay for the expenses ($300). Thanks Will.

i would like to give my thoughts on this........

I was really excited when i read Steve's initial post. I liked the idea of a pot-luck type dinner, the price is good too, and he mentioned kids being there. I have not attended any of the offlines mainly because of monetary reasons, but also because where-i-go-my-kids-go. I even mentioned it to my husband, saying we could probably be able to make this one, the price sounded right and it seemed kid-friendly. The food donation idea is also really great. With the holidays coming up, food pantry's are always overwhelmed.

Chili/soup bar....... sounds like a cool thing. But for this event, i like the original idea better.

$20 - $25 ticket price and having food catered in...... Personally my family could not afford it, and i like the idea of the potluck better.

As we discuss cooking/food/tastes/ideas/methods on different threads i always think to myself how it would be cool to sample different things from different people. Everybody has a different background, everybody has a different palette, different levels and areas of experience. I would not make the same type of food that say Dan Thomas would make. He is a professional chef with wayyyyyy more experience than me. Annemarie is Italian, i am sure she would make Italian dishes different than i would. I'm Latina and I probably make my food differently than Dan and Annemarie. My point, that is only 3 people. How cool would it be to have all this individuality come together and share?

(Dan and Annemarie, i hope i did not offend you all by using you in my explanation.)

I would love to take part in this- it sounds like a great time and I know for a fact we have some awesome cooks in our midst. I am good Sundays and Mondays, anything else is iffy for me. I will be with you all in spirit if nothing else.
