Re: restaurant.com certificates 90% off 1.50 and .40 cents

by Karen H » Mon Sep 14, 2009 11:30 pm

Hope you all have better luck using your certificates than my husband and I did this weekend. I bought a $10 cert. last year for Rincon Mexican Restaurant in Bardstown it expires in Oct. so we went Saturday to try the restaurant and use our cert. When I gave it to the waitress she said that they do not accept those any more. We talked to the manager and apparently the guy from restaurant.com came and talked to them but they never signed an agreement with him. He put them for sale online anyway and sold tons of them and they honored them for a couple of months but not anymore. I know I didn't pay much for this certificate......it's jus the principle of the matter.....that I paid for something I could not use. :x Has anyone else had this kind of problem with restaurant.com? I am not sure I will try it again.

Karen,

Speaking as someone who has climbed and died on the hill of "principle" more times than I care to remember, I don't blame you a bit for being miffed. On the assumption that this was a very popular restaurant.com promotion I'm certain that if there are similar problems that we will hear about them. On a related note, I'm a bit surprised to read that there was an expiration date on the coupon, I tried to read as much of the "fine print" as possible and I don't recall seeing an expiration date on any of the certificates I purchased...Not saying there wasn't one and that I just missed it.

Email Restaurant.com and they should give you a gift certificate for the amount of the bad one. I had a problem with a unit closing (actually twice!) before i used it and they credited me a new certificate.

To Steve P. - they state several places on the site they are good for year after the date of purchase.

Well ! There ya go. I probably should have spent more time in school learning to read and less time smoking in the boys room. My teachers always told me it would come back to bite me in the a** one day. :P Thanks Suzi, 'preciate the heads up (Guess we got a LOT of eattin' to do in the next year)

Steve - we appreciate your sacrifice!! I do admit it is kinda hidden on the page just before you print and on the FAQ page.

I did find this on their customer service page;

"What if?

Worried that the restaurant might not honor your certificate? Our restaurant partners want you to be happy. After all that’s the whole point, to bring in and keep a new customer. So rest assured, we back up what we say. You have an unconditional guarantee. If something isn’t right with your certificate, just contact customer service by phone or email and we’ll take care of it right away. We want you to come back over and over again."

I have had no trouble with them replacing certificates. I kept a couple "in the hopper" for those months that new places get added. You can buy gifts with no restaurant chosen and then when you find one you want, you apply it to that one on-line and print. I have given them as gifts too.

I have purchased 54 certificates since Aug 2006. Luckily I have not encountered any issues. Here are the restaurants I purchased certificates for in no particular order. The certificates I purchased the most were Bourbons Bistro and North End Cafe.

Bourbons Bistro
North End Cafe
Le Peep - In Georgia
Joe's OK Bayou
Meridian Cafe
Winstons's
Artenisia
Limestone
Buck's
Vincenzo's
Coach Lamp
Furlong's
The Oakroom
Old Seelbach Bar

Once you create an account on restaurant.com they send you discount codes - pretty much every week.

Avast ye ! I checked me email this morning and shiver me timbers but what there wasn't a new discount program going. This one for 60% off. Be ye an old salt, scalawag or just a scurvy dog ye should jump aboard, weigh the anchor and hoist the mizzen lest you be made to walk the plank for the serious crime of not saving some valuable dabloons...It's hard to say how many pieces of eight could be saved each fortnight by using these letters of marque. Arrrrrgh me bucko...don't let it take a shot across yer slimy bow to get you out of the rack. :D

Migraine ? I hear ya there Lady. I'm currently shacked up in some Sleep Inn Mo-tel in Oklahoma City with every mullet headed mouth breather in the state. As a result of the State Fair going on the place is packed and guess what ? It's raining. The place is a freaking zoo. At this very moment there is a woman with the biggest padonkadonk butt I've ever seen chasing a screaming little 4 y.o. up and down the hallways..."Honey, don't chew run with deddy's pockit knife in yer hand" (bless his little heart). The lobby has a TV and is crowded with guys carrying "spit cups" who are watching Sports Center in preparation for the "Ohhhh-Yewwww" football game. The ones who don't have straw cowboy hats on look like they have raccoons growing on their heads. The parking lot is packed with "Duelie" pickup trucks and best I can tell when I went out to have a smoke they didn't get all the horse sh** out of 'em when they hosed 'em down before leaving the ranch. So yeah, I know what ya mean when ya say "Migraine".

I considered just driving a screwdriver into my eye socket but have decided on an experimental cure. I've got a flask of good KY boubon and a 12 pack of beer on ice...Just as soon as that freaking clock strikes noon I'm gonna hunker down in my room, watch a little college football and get good and recreationally drunk.
