Re: A question about the Phoenix Hill Chili Cookoff

Home division difference - home kitchens not set up for commercial kitchen sanitation reasons. I was a judge back when I was PD of WFPK, and it was fun, but I wasn't thinking in culinary terms back then. My criteria would be substantially different now!

Steve, I looked for you yesterday but had no luck ??

I know the Back Door won the restaurant part, who won the individual prize ??

A fine beer may be judged with only one sip, but it's better to be thoroughly sure.

Alan,

Sorry. We ended up deciding at the last minute not to cook and in retrospect I'm glad we made that decision. We had NO idea of the level of commitment these folks have and would have been ill prepared. Instead we spent the afternoon in Marsha's booth dishing up chili and generally taking up space. It was fun. A lot of fun.

Steve, I saw you near the beer truck (surprise?) on my way out, but you were talking away with someone, so I decided not to interrupt. Glad you guys had fun.
Thinks the frosty mug is the low point in American history.

Did anyone else catch the band called "Identity Crisis" in the upstairs bar at P.H. during/after the chili cook off ? These kids were honest to God one of the best bands I've ever heard outside of a concert hall...and they aren't old enough to shave yet (they look to be 15/16/17-ish). After listening to them my faith in the musical talents of the youth of today has been restored. Seriously, check out their MySpace page, it's got a couple of songs on it. The female singer/lead guitar player has a voice that will knock your socks off...somewhere between Ann Wilson (Heart) and Pat Benetar. Until you have a chance to check them out live (they are too young to play anything but "all ages" shows) here's the link:
