Ashley I did not get there until late  , but from everyone I spoke to it looked to be a great success.

By the way the Monty Python Holy Grail last Thursday was wonderful. Cool goblets :)

Overall a fabulous event! Thanks Ashley!

My one suggestion would be to have slightly smaller pours to facilitate trying a wider variety of beers. 12 oz is just a bit too much of behemoths like the Big Fella and Double Barrel. Next time, if those are the only glasses you can get, you could just have the people pouring fill it up either 1/3 or 1/2 the way to the top for 4 or 6 oz pours. That would also let you reduce the ticket prices a bit, although $5 was definitely reasonable for the 12 oz pour.

Thanks again!

bah, 12oz pours of the big fella are hardly big enough.

Of the beers I tried, the big fella and the stone old guardian aged in red wine barrels were the two top brews.

Just wanted to add - this was a great event. We got there about 5:30 and secured a nice patio table. I enjoyed the BBC Big Fella (excellent), Dogfish Palo Santo Marron (better than excellent), and the Stone Sublimely Self-Rightous (very very good). Friends were nice enough to give me sips of the Theobrama (lighter than expected) and Stone Smoked Porter w/ chipotle (interesting. . .).

The food was solid as well - especially the beer cheese. The soup/bisque was nice.

The only downside was the unavailablity of the Double Barrel Stout - it has apparently gone bad when they opened it up for the event.

Excellent event.

I wondered all night who was the Pirate. Never wanted to get close enough to find out. Scary Hank!

Really? I had it that night. There definitely was an odd sourness to it, but I attributed a decent amount of that to oak tannins from having been aged for so long. It wasn't at all what I expected, but in my opinion it transformed into a good sour stout. Maybe not what the guidelines call for, but when you compared it to the likes of Dogfish it almost became normal!

Weird. At around, oh, I'm guessing 7:00ish (maybe 7:30), a friend I was with went to get the DBS, and was told when they opened it for this event it had gone bad. Perhaps they gave out a few, and then realized the sour wasn't what was supposed to be there? I have no idea, but that's what he was told. . .

AHHH, the mystery is solved. From Joel posted on the BBC lineup thread:

Joel Halbleib wrote:Thanks Ashley, and thanks to everyone who came out. I was very disappointed that the last keg of Double Barrel Stout went south on us before we had a chance to drink it. I guess it is time to lay back several new barrels. Maybe this time it will be an Imperial Dbl Barrel Stout.

So, had we sought the DBC a little sooner, we would have been fine. It was just the last keg. Too bad, but our fault for waiting.
