make sure to order a dozen because if you just want six they charge you by the "per bun" price and you'll end up paying the same and the "lovely" staff there will neglect to tell you. Get some cookies as well!

Gotta give some props to Butchers Best in Prospect! Jimmy makes some great Italian sausage that is always fresh, their Andouille is my favorite and would be great for tailgating. Even though I prefer the pork the chicken/spinach/feta sausage is wonderful!

Mike Best's meats on US 42 has my cousins sausage recipe (I gave it to them)....I have them make it for me for the football season...He owns two pork stores in NY (Greenwich Village, and Brooklyn)...I have yet to meet someone that tried it and didn't love it....particularly on a nice and crunchy baguette, with roasted peppers and onions.

Gotta say that Lotsa Pasta's Italian sausage has been a disappointment for us. Frozen - hmm. We thought they were under seasoned and dry. A store of that caliber should have fresh. I'll go with Mike Bests and Kingsley's.

Im a huge fan of LotsaPasta, but I do agree with you to an extent. I dont have a problem with the sausage being frozen. You need pretty good turnover to make and sell fresh sausage. Im not sure Id say the sausage is "under" seasoned, the flavors just dont come across as "bright" or well balanced to me. We do use it when we dont have own,as I have found it to be the best option here in Louisville.
We make regular trips up to Chicago to get our sausage. We then load it up in our deep freeze.
Ill make a point to try Mikes Best.
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

Not Italian but if anyone evvvver runs into Conecuh Brand sausage I suggest you load up the grocery cart. It's made in Alabama and is sold throughout the south. The closest source to us would be the Food City chain in eastern KY. Serious-serious good eats.

I'll 2nd the Whole Foods sausage. They make all their sausage in house and have a wide variety of pork and chicken sausage. It is available in links and in bulk packs. $6 a pound, I believe.
