Washington and makes Red's Best Ky Proud, but he's not certified (too much $$$ and hassle, plus something about compromising the quality), so he does exactly like Rusty does and hops around town with a basket. He actually has a woman or two that help him and make a few of the jerky dollars. If you ever get a chance to try it, it's outstanding jerky and he's been making it since he retired as an engineer many many years ago. I recently had exactly this discussion ~ jerky from the streets doesn't seem nearly as good as black market jerky.

Where can we get it?

Right time and place? I know he and the ladies wander into businesses (esp. bars at night) in the Fern Creek and Mt. Washington areas. I told him about a year ago that I would carry it around for him and sell it for the holidays, but I didn't receive any response from my friends and the forum, and I cringe at the thought of bar hopping to sell beef. Plus I wouldn't want to compete with Rusty's market.

If anyone is interested, I can help arrange something.

(also - I'm meant to say "Store bought jerky doesn't seem nearly as good as black market jerky" in my previous post.)

I'm interested. I would pick some up if there was someplace closer than Mt. Washington.

>>
Are you setting down for this? We are going to be making the Teriyaki again in September!!!! YEAH! I think we will be having a lot of customers having Teriyaki Jerky Parties! It looks like it will be mid September. Our bags are being shipped this week and it takes a little bit for them to get to us. So not much longer!!

Thanks for your email and have a great day!!

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread, but I just have to let you guys know about Ed's Roadhouse Jerky. He is based outside of Chicago and makes the most amazing beef jerky I have ever had. He uses prime angus beef and no preservatives.

Beware though, it can be an expensive addiction!

Thanks for the tip, Corey! Have you run into Mingua beef jerky? It's made right here in Kentucky and is available in Louisville at Paul's produce markets (and other places, I'm sure). It's actually made in Paris, Ky., getting over toward your neck of the woods.

Mingua is all over the place in these parts! I think it's great! There is a BBQ flavor now that is really excellent; I think it might be new.
