It was written by Katya Cengel, who may be the best feature writer over there and one of the few really good people to come after Gannett. I often wonder what draws good people like that to the decaying carcass of a once great newspaper.

Maybe they need a job.

Working for Gannett is probably less evil than working as a pimp or drug dealer, it's true. But it still surprises me to see a few good people hang around. Quite a few of us walked out the door and never came back.

Speaking of, uh, Gannett... the latest Velocity's cover story is about Edward Lee and PotStickers. Ed Garber is quoted as asking, "Is Louisville ready for it?" Duh. As if a foodie town like Louisville ("fifth foodiest small city!") won't welcome well-made innovative fast food with a quality name attached. It isn't revolutionary; it's inevitable.

A sidebar to the Lee article lists "Five tasty additions we'd like to see in Louisville's sidewalk food scene": kebabs, tacos, falafel, crepes, and pretzels. I would like to add 'hurry curry': the school where I taught in India years ago had delicious fast food: samosa, pakora, poori and chunna, and great barfi. (In addition to tasting great, it gave me chronic giardiasis and messed up my colon enough to keep me out of the Viet Nam war.) Great Indian food does not have to be cooked to order. You make vats and batches in the morning and serve it all day. No problem. There should be sidewalk vendors selling samosas and pakoras, and places like J. Gumbo slopping yummy curries in cartons to go home.

You'll have to wait a couple of more days for Asian sandwiches and noodles.

PotStickers, the quick-service Baxter Avenue restaurant run by 610 Magnolia's Edward Lee , was set to open Saturday. But Lee said he needs a few more days with the details. Now the grand opening is scheduled for Tuesday.

If you want to call ahead next week and make sure it's open, the number is (502) 618-4500.

It seems to be that a mid-week opening makes WAY more sense anyway. They would be slammed with Saturday night bar traffic, which could be terrible if they need a few days to get into the groove.

Pot Stickers is having free tasting today. The entire menu is free from 12-2 and this evening from 6-8. Give it a try. Afterwards they are asking people to fill out an opinion form. But seriously, its free and pretty good quality.

Its Asian fast food sort of like an Asian Q doba (but local, within 5 minutes walking from my house, and better) where its super quick, very affordable, unique, and tasty. Good quality without pretentiousness. I also like that I can order a large amount of pot stickers at once (15 for under 8 bucks). Plus, they have four different flavors of pot sticker and five (i think) different dipping sauces. (awesome...) There are some small kinks to be worked out but I think they have a winner here. Great concept too IMO. A very welcome addition to the local dining scene. Check it out!

Do they have a beer/wine license by any chance?
