I have no problem with "I'll take this whenever you're ready." To me it says, "I'm not trying to rush you out of this place." With one caveat: that the server pause for just a second (and it really doesn't have to be any longer than that) to make sure you don't want to pay immediately.

And, customers should never yell at servers for any reason, ever. Show me a person who treats servers poorly, and I'll show you a real ass.

and I just thought of something else in regards to the change issue...when I have a table of 20 chatty women (and others but this is the most common scenario) who all expect separate checks, and who would throw a fit if I switch the entrees on 2 out of 20 tickets, even if they entrees are within $1 of each other (hell, I've even been yelled at when they were the exact same price!) and who insist on splitting bottles of wine 6 ways, and keep moving around so I can't keep track of who's where and who ordered what...When i've got this many checks, issues, occasionally complaints from one or two...it's not possible to not ask if they need change...it takes longer to get change than anything, and when you're doing 20 checks, it's just not realistic, sorry if it's rude, but in this situation, I ASK!

Awhile back there was an article in the USA Today about CEO's that will take a prospective employee to a restaurant to see how they would treat the servers. If they were overly demanding a rude they wouldn't get the job.

Separate checks should be illegal. Nothing pisses me off more. How hard is it to divide a check total by the number of diners? If people want to have their own check they should go to a buffet.

honestly, with modern check ringing devices separate checks really aren't a big deal, I just get annoyed when people gripe about a switched entree with a minimal price difference instead of just asking me to fix it, or when people move around at a big table making it hard to keep track of them....and I'd say I'd prefer no more than 6 checks, but if you must get 16 separate, be understanding! It's gonna take a while, and there might be some minor mistakes!

I can't say I agree with your number 1 unless you change the word "always" to "most of the time"

I am with you with Lynn's. But I have had stellar food there on one out of 10 occasions. I think it's Pee Wee's playhouse that brings people back. The prices are about 2 dollars too high for my tastes.

I agree with three. I was there a month ago and the server kept asking me if I needed anything, so I said "privacy" I don't like being rude but it does come natural.

ha! 4 is good too. There is too much pretension at wine bars for me. Not from the experts but from the posers.

I dont mind paying a lot for good stuff. More often than not, it isnt that great but sometimes its very good. I like those sometimes.

My biggest is bothering me, if I have a problem they will know about it. Just keep the glasses full and we are good.

I also wanted to say that I have had a couple big parties with separate checks who were way cool, and super appreciative of the extra time it took....kudos to them!

I was referring to the diners doing that division themselves, not the server.

I have NEVER asked for separate checks in a restaurant. It is so tacky.

We're both on the same page. What I meant was for the diner to do the math, not the server.

Why would you divide the total? If I have a 8 dollar salad and the yahoo next to me has 26 dollar whatever, you best believe that I am not going to pay more than what I ordered. I find that tacky. There will be no "divide the check by number of diners" if I am there. On top of that, what if everyone is paying with a card? I never carry cash. Also, I don't think most people make enough money to drop other peoples tab on their card and possibly expect payment later. I for one don't want to "owe" people anything. I think separate checks are a necessity and not a difficult task for the server, I know, I was one. Wasn't that fun when it was extremely busy and there was a bunch of people but being on both sides, I am ok with it.

I hate when I go to websites and they bombard me with noise from some idiotic video or music they are playing that I can't turn off. ......I don't know if it has much to do with food. :P

really, in most systems, it's not a big deal at all and i don't mind doing it, the only problem is with huge parties, and all I ask is a little patience, and less moving around the table
