I certainly understand that, sometimes building owners try tactics like this and it backfires and the renter moves. What I don't understand is why move into the location discussed Liquor Barn is completely changing its market. People that go to the Springhurst are generally not going to go to one on Shelbyville road in St Matthew's, instead they're going to find a new place to shop. Moving that far from your clientele just doesn't make good business sense.

Annemarie,

No you don't understand...This is really screwed up. We've got friends, albeit from TN, who visit every 6 or 8 weeks and think The Liquor Barn" is the number one tourist attraction in Louisville. Not sure if this says something about us or just the friends we keep. :?

This location is diagonally across the street from Beverage warehouse, and there is a legal dispute of some sort. (I guess the distance between them). It would be my guess that Liquor barn would buy out the lease of said Beverage warehouse. Phew. what a mess.

Folks,

Not to worry- There was an article about the dispute in Business First last week. My understanding is that the Shelbyville store is an additional location- it said nothing about closing Springhurst.

Steve, I think the location they're referring to is the building next to the old Sam Swope Pontiac store, kinda accross from the Oriental House, about a mile farther out Shelbyville Road from the old Sears building. 8)

I have a friend that knows a guy who's third cousin's boy friend works for LB. This friend told me of the expansion to St. Matthews in May. Surprised it's not a done deal yet. Also confirms SH LB not closing.

Move along, nothing to see here.

Guys,

A few quick things:

First off, the Springhurst location is not closing. The renovated Growler/draft beer bar and tasting area has been a big success so far. 40 tap handles was ambitious but it has exceeded our expectations. That store will continue to be open. You should stop by on a Friday night around 530 and enjoy it.

In November, a brand new Liquor Barn will open in the old Huffman car lot space mentioned above. We are in the process of renovating the previous building and property and are on track to open on schedule.

It will be a great store that will include a 20 handle draft system for samples, flights of beer and growlers. It will have a large walk in cigar humidor and food department that our customers are used to. It will be a great store at a great location. We're excited to enter St. Matthews.

Paul, don't you worry too much. The weekly and bi-monthly wine sessions and tastings will continue as usual. Patrick and the crew will be around to keep you from getting too thirsty.

We will continue to host brewers, distillers and wine makers in that area also.

There IS an agreement in place with a new company.

All of the key players will remain in place from managers, buyers, IT, accountants and down the totem pole.

The current owner WILL still have a role in the new company. He will continue to consult on the overall operations and will continue to hunt down great wines for great values from across the globe.

Personally, I'm excited about what I believe is about to happen as is the current owner and the President.

We will continue to support local and regional beverage products, food products, charities and the arts communities here in Louisville and throughout KY. Over the years we've tried very hard to support our local friends and business entities and that is still our plan.

Thanks to all for the kind words. Myself and lots of others here in Louisville will be striving to keep the liquor barns you're used to and...possibly make them even better than they've been before.

Thanks,

Brad Williams,
General Manager

Brad,
Thanks for providing us with accurate information. I'm glad you're expanding and not relocating, we enjoy going to the Springhurst store but certainly wouldn't go to it very often if it moved to that location. From where we live to that location traffic is a real problem.

Thanks again,

I have to add Kudos for the new tasting area and Growler bar. A number of our friends have raved about the selection, the fun atmosphere ( and the price), so Brian went to check it out a couple of weeks ago. He thought it was great and he's been back several times- looks like its turning into the regular spot to start "Guys Night Out".

Brad,

For those who aren't familiar, can you describe what's happening when, with the Growler bar and wine tastings?

Thanks,
Deb

Ohhhh thank you, thank you, thank you...thank you. (Whew had me sweating there for a minute).

Our friends from TN...the ones who think the L.B. is the eighth wonder of the world were fixin' to break out the hog rifles and the pitchforks and head on up to Canuk-a-stan and start some real trouble over this rumor. Thank God I caught 'em just before they left the double wide and loaded up the 4x4's :P

I find it "interesting" that someone took a rumor started by a Liquor Barn competitor and posted it as fact on this forum.

Man, I think I am retiring from the news business. Keep getting it wrong, I am obviously not a reliable source. Just gullible. glad to hear SH LB is not closing, and I will inform my informant of such.

Todd, that competitor is a family friend so I took it as reliable.

Hey, Robin - can we change the name of the thread to "Liquor Barn NOT Sold"?
