It was either in the same shopping center as Lynaugh's, or on the corner of Euclid and Rose (where there was a Skyline Chili, last I was there). Can anybody confirm this?

I didn't live in Lex, but I did visit my brother at UK there during the early 80's. There was an outfit called Taco John's back then. I wonder if it may have been them. Some are still around KY, but none in Lex that I know of.

That was it - we found them disgusting at first, but then it grew on us. Probably too many drunk nights, and having Mexican within walking distance... need I say more? I just remember we were sad when we came back from winter break, and they were closed. Thanks for clarifying.

There used to be one in Jeffersonville, alongside 10th Street in front of what is now Big Lots. (I remember when that was an Ayr-Way...I feel old. :( )

Doogy,

I love the pictures..........I may be the very 1st one in line at the Tico when they open! If not, I will certainly be there opening night.

By the way, Rax is still alive. I believe there is one on I-75 south of Lexington. BBC or bust! There are also several north of Kentucky. (near Muncie, IN and east of Columbus, OH??)

Looks like you're right! From the Taco Tico Website:

Louisville 5925 Terry Rd. Coming soon

Didn't there used to be a Taco Tico in Buechel on Old Bardstown Road back in the old days? I have to confess that having learned Mexican food out west, in Southern Idaho and California, I've never been a great fan of the Taco Hell style. But that said, I would definitely give Taco Tico the edge in that contest.

There was one in what is now Etscorn's Body Shop. I haven't paid too much attention lately, but the old Taco Tico sign may be still in place, just covered up with other wording??

Taco Tico

This is great news. Taco Tico was always much better than Taco Bell for fast food Tex-Mex. When I used to live in the Douglas Loop area, I would drive all the way to the Hikes Point store to pick up a carryout. I hope they open more locations.

Taco Smell has to be near the bottom of the fast food world as far as taste and quality are concerned. I hope Taco Tico makes a real prescence here and just blows them out of the water. I know YUM is HQ'd here and that's good for the Ville's economy but Taco Smell just fu$#ing sux. I long for the days of yore. Please bring back RAX as well. I'm so glad we have the WC Lounge and Waffle House.

My one memory of the Taco Tico we once had in Jeff was either myself or my brother throwing up after eating the food on the premises. Therefore, I'll probably refrain.

After all, I have seldom gone to ANY Fazoli's after my meal from the Frankfort location caused me to have diaheria every half-hour the next day and leave a nice banquet due to throwing up twice.
