An L-shaped dining room in front where the bar is with a window looking out onto Bardstown Road. Another couple of dining rooms in back with the sushi bar. Other than that, I don't remember much...all I could see or think about was the food.

Well, we had an interesting interaction with Cafe Mimosa last night, but it all ended relatively well and with a nice gesture on their part.

We ordered delivery at 6:40, with an estimated delivery time of 45-60 minutes. At about 8:00 (an hour and 20 minutes later), my wife called to see where our order was. She was told it was being bagged and would be there soon. At 8:30 (nearly 2 hours later) I called back, and was told the delivery person was out with it, so it should arrive any time. At 9:00 (2 hours and 20 minutes later), still nothing, so I called again and was told it must have been delivered to the wrong location (which begged the question, were they ever going to call me about it, or just charge me for food someone else was happily enjoying. . .). I was told they would re-make it and deliver, but of course that would take at least another 30 minutes, putting us at nearly 3 hours post-order, so I told them just to cancel the order. She was apologetic, and said that next time I ordered to ask for so-and-so, and the order would be free.

At about 9:45 our doorbell rings, and there is our food (3 hours and 5 minutes post-order). I told the gentleman that we had canceled the order, which he acknowledged, but said the restaurant still wanted us to have our food, at no charge. We had already gotten dinner elsewhere by that point, of course, but now I get to enjoy my lo mein for lunch.

The mix-up on the delivery and the 3+ hour wait was a bit beyond comprehension, but I greatly appreciated the gesture on their part, and it saved them from losing our business. I'm sure the food will be great.

Wow, Brad, that's a pretty tough experience, but I wouldn't for a second consider that indicative of their ethics. Sounds like your order got lost in the pound of opening week.

That being said, I too got delivery this week (Wednesday) and was told it would be 40 minutes but it took an hour and twenty. I don't fault them for it. I was too eager to wait past opening week, and I recognized the delivery driver was the owner from the last incarnation of Lentini's, so I'm wondering what that's all about. He certainly hasn't been on the highlands beat as a delivery man long and I bet he got lost due to my little, frequently overlooked street in the highlands. I ran into him the day they (Lentini's) had to close the doors and he was really upset, so I wish him the best. He used to be an antiques dealer and has a gentle soul. Also, regarding the time delay in delivery, I don't know how many people they were able to retain from the previous location, but the person I spoke to on the phone was new to Mimosa, so I'm sure there's a lotta training going on. Even for those that have returned, it's gotta be hard unlearning your previous dance on your former stage.

Also I would like to add that they still have the same number (I referred to the chinese calendar still hanging on my refrigerator from right before the fire). I love Mimosa, we've been together for a long time and I knew the separation wouldn't be permanent.

In reponse something you said, Robin, Huong Tran (Coco) sold the place when I was maybe twenty... but I'm not telling you how long ago that was. Just kidding! This Thursday I can officially start saying things like, "thirteen yrs ago, when I was twenty..."

And to add review to this post, my food was perfect. Lemongrass tofu and chinese vegetable soup (minimum $15 order, so I included tofu and veg with garlic sauce). And fyi, they've been doing sushi for a long time. I haven't looked at the new menu, I was just assuming it would be the same as the one on my fridge.

Welcome back, love.

Absolutely. I'm sure it was all a mixup, and like I said, their gesture to make things right was appreciated. I'll continue to eat there - I just may only do delivery on lazy Sunday afternoons, and order about 4:00 for dinner.

It sounds to me like this was the same gentleman that delivered to me.

I will add, the lo mein was better than I remembered it--very good indeed.
