I'm with Jon. Cumberland is my favorite in town, especially because they really pile on the blue cheese. You pretty much have to eat it with a fork.

Just off the grill... Two 9oz patties, Grilled with Alder and Mesquite, topped with Sharp Cheddar and Swiss, chopped Red Onion and Mr. Mustard spread evenly across a couple of well toasted buns from Regina Bakery in Cincinnati...I'm one lucky man right now! :D :D :D

in the neighborhood where i grew up there is a place called Rumbaugh's. it's located in a newly built, small strip mall at lower hunters and terry. given the end of town it's in, you won't be surprised to hear that it's yet another family friendly sports bar. however, they offer both a beef and bison burger and each one is hand patied daily. i have tried the bison twice and it's an outstanding burger. they also have delicious handcut fries.

also, a quick FYI: there is a TACO TICO in the same shopping center. yes, it's just like the original taco tico. they have what i believe is called a taco burger on the menu. it's like sloppy joe with taco seasoning and taco toppings. it's really messy and saucy but i love it! something to try if you're in the neighborhood. they have a drive thru.
chi mangia bene, viva bene.

Lilly's also has an all natural beef burger on the menu. Outstanding with the home-made bun.

This isn't going to win me any points here I suppose but here goes...
My mom and dad owned their own restaurant on Armory St almost 50 years ago (called Franklin Way) and a steam table restaurant near U of L called 4th Ave Cafeteria. They had some awesome little old ladies that cooked for them (my mom was the baker). Anyway, they had fantastic hamburgers. Not the big thick burgers, just the flat little patty burgers they made from their own meat cuts. They fried them flat and crispy. That's why I love Steak and Shake burgers. They remind me of my parents restaurants' burgers. No culinary ideals here, just a pleasant memory of burgers, hand cut fries and and dipped milkshakes and malts from my past.

We vote for Flanagan's and the Shady Lane Cafe.

Bill Smith, chef owner at the Shady Lane Cafe, was Dean Corbett's first sous chef at Equus.

I didn't mention the best part- if you sat at the counter the stools spun ALL THE WAY AROUND!

Thanks for the memories, Carla. :D may not have been living in Louisville in those times, but I have similar cherished memories.

HEY !!! I wanted to call you guys to go to Flanigans for a burger on Sat. but Becky said it was impolite and in poor taste to call people at the last minute (and I'm like...so what's your point ?). We ended up at Za's eating pizza at one of their sidewalk tables. Darn good pizza and GREAT people watching :D

Ollie's Trolley

An ollieburger with cheese, extra sauce and fries. I managed to get the front office staff here to go out and get some last wednesday and they all loved it.

That being said, I can only do Ollie's once every three or four months.

Flanagan's burgers are always good for me though.

The one I don't see listed anymore is from Bourbon's Bistro . . . it must be the tallest burger in town, stacked with portobella mushroom, tomato, greens, onion rings, avocado, jalapeno mayo, apricot bourbon mustard, and brioche bun. Anyone like that except for me? ($11 - more with bacon)
