I guess I'll be the only one going out to dinner tomorrow night so hopefully it won't be too crowded. Since I am the only cook at home I would rather be waited on on my day. Hungry Pelican in Fern Creek has kids eat free on Sunday nights(What can i say I'm one of those cheap-ass dads) and $1.50 beers. Sure beats fishin in this heat which is usually what we do. Tomorrow looks more like chillin out all day at the pool with the kids with a follow up of some fried clams and an icy Corona. Ahh yeahhh!!!! 8)

Rich has to work at 11, so at his request we are taking him to Wild Eggs for breakfast. I plan to have a nice light late dinner for him after work. Son has card and gift at the ready. A lot of Father's Days in our family are spent at a family reunion that is on that day. Richard really loves to see the family and rehear the stories. We are going to a reunion of another branch of the family next weekend.

Carla, I LOVE your post. My dad died when I was 4, so I missed a lot of that. My memories of him involve being lifted on his shoulders a lot to see things. I like to believe he wanted his kids to "see the world, not the knees" (that is something a I read somewhere very long ago about a dad). I will relive those times tomorrow and say a prayer for my dad and all the dads that give their kids their best. For all you fathers out there, continue to do the little things with and for your children - you will be amazed what they will cherish later. :D

Boat ride to Madison, beers at Shipleys and the Broadway, cookout in the marina :D

A fine beer may be judged with only one sip, but it's better to be thoroughly sure.

carla griffin wrote:I sincerely hope that all you dads at there that love being a dad (my dad was like that) have the greatest Father's Day ever!

Here's to all the men that taught us how to bait a hook, change a tire, never give up, smile in the face of defeat, humility in triumph, to measure twice - cut once, righty tighty, lefty loosey, leaving the toilet seat DOWN after using, that grown men might cry but by god they still carry on, never eat yellow snow, open the door for a lady (even if you know she's not a lady), never drink anything pink, never cut the grass too short in summer, moss on the north side of trees, and that humor, time and a sincere apology are sometimes the best medicine.

I miss you Daddy.

Carla, this brought tears to my eyes. For a couple of reasons, I had a father, but not a "Daddy". I didn't experience all those things and i cannot relate, BUT my husband is a great father. He plays with our children, teaches them things, and most importantly is trying to lead our family in a Godly manner.

Happy Father's Day to all those men that took the time to become, Daddy, Dad, Pop, or whatever endearing name they became.

And let us not forget the Step-Dad's that have "stepped" up to the plate where others did not!!!!! They too hold a special place in their children's hearts!

My wife and son took me to the Steele wine tasting and dinner at Corbett's. It really doesn't get any better than that for a wine freak and foodie!
