Cream, egg yolk, sugar, vanilla? I've never actually made it, and while I want to try, I still have vague doubt of my cooking skills. Eh, I'll try my hand at it at some point.

My coworkers were baffled when I asked for creme brulee for my birthday instead of the usual yallow cake/caramel icing style thing. They had no idea where to go, so I didn't get it from them. Now that I know it's available I'll have to make the trip out again and try it.

My first trip to Cafe Lou Lou was to the one up by Dundee about a month ago. Good beer selection. Had the four cheese ravioli with shiitake and shrimp, and it was fantastic.

Got it in one, except it's vanilla beans and the scrapings thereof, and my recipe include a few whole eggs, which give it a kind of lightness that's missing in some creme brulee recipes. Also, I don't cook the base over a flame - it's all done with tempering, then baking in a very shallow water bath. But don't be afraid to try it at home!!

Really, I think the key to a good brulee is to actually have a torch (not some bs carmelizing under a broiler). And I spit on the expensive, wimpy brulee torches sold in most cooking stores. Give me a big tank of propane from the hardware store and the welding torch attachment that goes with it! Fire! Fire! Fire!

Sounds dangerous Marsha! Hey do you have any new chocolate desserts at Lou Lou coming soon? I am not a big brownie fan. :(
