Friday Happy Hour made me think of "Butchertown Pub" several years ago....that was the "happ'nin" watering hole for quite awhile, where all the "suits" (male and female) gathered after a week's labors -- anyone remember their signature beverage, "The Butcherblock"?

Oh I wish I could join! Much jealousy here. I am still here at the house making a bunch of little amuse bouches for tomorrow. Actually, I've had about a bottle of wine while concocting everything. At this point, I've done about 100 of those little wonton wrap cup thingys you bake in the mini-muffin tins. I've never done them before, but am really happy with how they've turned out. Incredibly easy. I plan to fill them with salad items.

I seem to remember that Java brewing company on Frankfort ave. used to have happy hour specials. Perhaps half-price bottles of wine? I could totally be making this up, not sure. Nonetheless, it's a great place to sit in the rain and sip some wine, as the patio is partially covered and there is plenty of people watching too.

I almost mentioned the Butchertown Pub earlier. But since the post was directed at Phil who wouldn't know about it, I thought it would be rude to blather on about a place he wouldn't know. Although it's only a few miles from the Old Sears building. And yes -- I sampled a few Butcher Blocks back in the day. Those things were quite potent. I'd always have to go home and take a nap around 8pm on Friday. Fountain patio anyone??

My favorite happy hour location is the bar in my basement. Two beers on tap, all the jenos pizza rolls I can eat and some of the best music going...not to mention no mad mothers. :D

Thought I'd throw my two cents in for what it's worth.

For dive-y, my favorite tends to be Big Al's Beeritaville on Mellwood between Frankfort and Brownbsoro. Great outdoor patio, good bar food, cheap beer, pool table and beer barrel chairs.

I know you had mentioned Asiatique and wanting to get away from Bardstown Rd, but they're recently started a Fridays After Five with Dumante Drink Specials and live jazz with Carly Johnson and Craig Wagner from 5-7pm - weather permitting, it's on the patio.

BBC Taproom at Main and Clay is another favorite. Thursday is $2 pint nights, but any other day of the week they're $3, can't go wrong on either account. They're only open T-F.

And if you're looking for quantity to consume, there's always the Drink & Drown on Tuesdays at Q, gay bar on Main & 9th.
