Many thanks from our family to the LHB family for your support, prayers and good wishes. This is a wonderful resource for the restaurant community who do all band together in times of need. Althugh visitors are permitted in SICU from 8:30 - 7:30, only 2 at a time are allowed and quiet is enforced. Frankly, Les is sleeping quite a bit, or going for tests, and is not able to do a lot of visiting. His wife Nancy is with him 24 hours a day, other than running home for a quick shower and change of clothes. She has certainly appreciated Les' friends, family and coworkers who have stopped by for a few minutes to express support. In all honesty, at this point I don't want to encourage a parade of people, and I hope you understand. His job right now is to heal. Cards would be nice, though.

Really sucks. The worst part is that the offender will probably be out of jail within a year and driving drunk again (without even a license). Hopefully, the judge will throw the book at him this time...

As a former avid cyclist, hearing stories like this one makes it even more painful....

Leah, let me join all of the forumites in offering my sincerest wishes for a speedy recovery for you son-in-law. I encountered a similar situation a long time ago and it was certainly a most tramatic time. It makes us appreciate how quickly events can change from good to bad. My prayers are with your family.

On a lighter note, it was great seeing you on Friday morning at the Marriott brunch.

I had skipped this thread because based on the title of it, I assumed I couldn't help. I just now stumbled across this news story, and Marsha filled me in that the cyclist is Leah's son-in-law. My heart goes out to you and your family, Leah! I am so outraged and freaked out by this. I have so many dear friends that are bicycle commuters, the whole concept of someone intentionally running over a cyclist just totally makes me want to fall to pieces. How could anyone be so cruel? I'm fighting back tears just thinking about it!
