Let's not forget that Orenthal was convicted in the wrongful death civil suit. No way we can call him innocent IMO. I don't eat that much meat, but I think I'll give Ruby's a try.

He was found liable, not convicted. A small difference, but an important one. However, I agree with your sentiment.

Hopefully, someone will put a stop to this, soon!

I'm not sure there are any heroes on this bus. Mr. Ruby certainly hasn't been loath to reap the publicity from his decision, to the extent that I can't help but wonder how long it took his office to contact the TV stations.

Anyway, anyone who wishes to contact Mr. Galanter to express opinions about his threat of litigation might find this contact info of use:

Mr. Galanter and O.J. seem well paired.

I doubt Ruby did this solely for the publicity, but even if he did, good for him.

I noticed the Associated Press picked up the story last night and it immediately spread to most of the major daily papers. I doubt Mr. R. had to do too much outbound marketing on this one ...

actually I think he went to Seviche...my friend works at Za's and after eating at Seviche he went into Za's to watch the boxing Fight (Holyfield I think?)

You guys make some excellent points, and I think I'm convinced, I just tend to be a civil liberties defender.....but just because a group of people applaud something doesn't make it right. The morals and evidence we've all seen behind his decision, NOT his customer's applause are what makes what he did a good idea.

WHAS

by Suzi Bernert » Wed May 09, 2007 12:15 pm

WHAS just spent the first 5 minutes of the noon news on the Jeff Ruby/OJ story. Geez! Now Rev. Coleman is gathering his group for a protest. Unless his shyster (no reflection on our esteemed Ron - this guy is a publicity seeking "TV star") can prove a pattern of discrimination, he has not got a leg to stand on. Mr. Ruby can choose who he serves and it was his choice not to serve the man.

I think a protest is ridiculous, and making it a race thing is equally stupid, but after watching Ruby's CNN interview, while what he did may seem noble to us, I certainly get the impression that morals were not what caused him to do what he did...

I think it is a brilliant move on the part of Mr. Ruby....his sales will probably triple from this point forward. Damn, I wish O.J. stopped in here over Derby!! "We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone"...particularly O.J.......Hat's off to Ruby!!

Sounds like a very good and calculated move but it was probably emotionally motivated. Serve OJ and you might make a few hundred dollars but possibly lose patronage because people that were there might not go back and then they will tell their friends all about it and in the long run you might lose money or nothing changes at all. Kick him out and you could explode in sales and nothing happens or you could lose all of your new sales in litigation and you are even again but you still have that track record and in the end you will come out ahead.

Seviche has served him twice and they don't seem to have lost any business...

He was found liable of not preventing himself from causing their wrongful deaths in civil trial; the only reason the innocent verdict stood in the criminal trial was that the country and the justice system could not have tolerated a repeat. Hardly an innocent in light of the recent attempt to profit from his 'fictional' retelling of the murders. I would certainly ask him to leave my property, and I cringe when the local media cover his happy visits. Kudos to Ruby.

I am not sure what your point is? You want to challenge my speculation with speculation? If people are willing to patronize a business for turning away OJ, wouldn't you imagine that the reverse is possible? You also seemed to have missed the part where I said "or nothing changes at all".

Background Checks

by BDKollker » Wed May 09, 2007 1:10 pm

So if we have reservations for Jeff Ruby's, will we now be required to bring in a background check clearing ourselves of any possible convictions or dismissals on our records? If we have clear records do we get free dessert? Its kinda like taking your report card to the ice cream parlor when I was little, only this if for big kids.
