Oh, were you thinking about a pro-am team setup for THIS one? I dunno, Heather ... the wheels are already turning here. Maybe do a team thing for the NEXT throwdown, it seems to me ...

That's what I figured, too - next time, because it'll require some advance planning. Plus I want time to scout for my "am"

Robin, if you want to cook and a judge is needed- I love me my chicken and dumplings. Or, I would be happy to count ballots. Whatever works for the group.
Personally, I'd love to see you cook.

Gary, I think maybe we'll do this one for the pros and have a pro-am competition next time. It's a great idea, but we want to get this one up and running and with Derby intervening, I think we probably ought to avoid most bells and whistles this time. I'm not adamant, though. If I see the pack heading off in another direction, I'm real good at running around and getting in front of it. :D

I think Chicken and dumplin's is an amateur dish. The "pros" might want to pick something a bit more challenging! LOL (smack)

I would have thought so too, Heather, but a couple of the guys - serious pros - came up with the idea and wanted to do it. Maybe they want to take chix & dumps to a new level? 8)

Robin, count Selena's at Willow Lake Tavern in on the throwdown. Our chef, Dan Thompson is anxious to abandon our creole/Sicilian cuisine for the day and get back to his Kentucky roots with Dumplins'

Has anyone thought about a charity to benefit? I have an idea for one.

Timothy Tucker is a local Chef who runs a great program at the Salvation Army to teach culinary skills to the residents at their facility. They are frequently short on funds, donations, and products for him to accomplish his goals. As a group of local foodies, I think it would be great for us to support another local foodie who is using his skills and talent for the greater good. I've dropped in some links for media coverage of his program, and if the group is interested, I'd be happy to contact him and learn more.

Questions, thoughts, criticisms, alternatives?

Bret, we actually have a couple of candidates queued up, including at least one food-related charity; but this looks good, and I'll definitely add this one to the list. I keep a queue, so if we can't honor every candidate at any individual throwdown, we'll keep the good ones in line to use in turn.

To answer your question Deb: Neither, I am calling AMATEUR, just because I am a restaurant owner doesn't mean I'm a prooooo! No one will ever know! LOL! I know I should put my money where my mouth is, and I intend to. I will give to the charity like everyone else!

I will be there to critique and enjoy!

But you would be surprised what this New Yawka can do with Chix and Dumplin's!

I'd personally never tasted Chicken & Dumplings before moving here 10 years ago- but now I make a mean "NJ version" of them. But my MIL wanted to know what was going on with that "green stuff" ( thyme & fresh parsley ) in my version- she owns a restaurant in Harlan and says she's never heard of any green in Chicken & Dumplings...
