Got an alternate idea about how we can keep this thing online for all you guys during a recession, Neal?

But I am wondering; is this the final version?

This layout is close-to-final, although we're still working with an expert in an effort to recover the smiley and message formatting buttons.

I think the ads help with the overall look of the site. The layout is still (kind of) weird looking, though.

Everything is squished to the left of my screen.

But, opinions are like you-know-whats....most of us have one.

That may be to accommodate an additional ad on the right-hand side of the page, Shannon. Is it just a small squish, or do things look REALLY squishy? If the latter, it might be a problem, and if so, please let me know what computer and browser software you're using.

I have 2 new problems.

1) I can't get to the forums using Opera 9.6 as my browser. (It never was a problem before.)

2) The webiste is "squishy"; it is only using about 60% of my monitor screen. (That is when i log on using IE.)

Robin -

I'll have to replace my proof reader. Slight typo that obviously changes the meaning; meant to say "do not detract from the site".

It's not too bad, I would say 1/3 of my screen (on the right) is just the color block.

The old forum stretched across. I run Firefox (3.0.8) on a Mac Book.

Now that's odd...I didn't put a smilie above. I typed out the FF version???

As far as the squish situation goes I'm running IE8 and is probably about 30% of screen blank on the right hand side. Fortunately it's the yellow background color instead of black, kind of distracting but not terrible.

Now LHB is squished for me. First time it's happened. I logged on tonight using Firefox and the right 40% of the screen is not being used.

"Squished" implies disproportion. The images and letters don't look narrowed, do they? I think what you guys are seeing is simply that the body of the forum is set to a fixed width, so there is room for future ads and public-service announcements on the right-hand side. You can set a window to be just the size of the forum, but if you use full-screen at a fairly high resolution, then yes, you'll see a lot of yellow on the right.

OK squished wasn't the correct term, as nothing is distorted. I follow a number of blogs, chatboards and a variety of online things, and nothing else uses so little of the screen. Not actually a problem, it just looks different. I can certainly read everything.

Just out of curiosity, what size do you have your monitor set at? Do you use the full screen for all Websites?

Maybe it's just me, but I don't run most of my programs full screen. I put them in different windows and drag the windows to be about the right size to fit whatever I'm looking at. And remember that at some point there may be friendly, relevant local advertising material in that space, and we hope you'll support them by clicking and reading, so don't get in the habit of hiding all that space. ;)

Since I don't know how to change full screen to anything else, I'd have to say that, yes I view everything using the full screen.
