Have you checked with Ann's by the River in Jeffersonville? I would think you'd need contact them ahead of time for that large an order, but they have everything you're looking for.

You might also check Cunninghams, The Coach Lamp or Burger's Market.

Actually, due to time constraints I'd really like to stay on Lou.'s side of the river if possible. Does anyone have experience with the Cottage Inn for something like this? CD

I was just going to suggest Cottage Inn. GREAT fried chicken! Only issue could be a wait - it's popular and crowded, and they generally fry the chicken to order. Might check in advance and see if they would accept an order made in advance. Or offer to pay them in advance with a credit card?

Yep, credit card in advance is all doable. In fact preferred smile smile. So glad, Robin, you like Cottage Inn's fried chix. Anything else on the menu there you or Mary particularly love? CD

The fried chicken is the classic, Catherine, but Mary does love their liver-and-onions, and really, all the "down-home" dishes they do there are quite good. A Bosnian family (owners of Mr. Z's Kitchen near downtown) bought it last year, but the down-home fare actually got *better* when they did.

My only concern would be your quantity needs, which frankly I skimmed over in your original post. Definitely talk to them advance about their ability and willingness to do that, but I think you'll be happy if you can work it out with them.

Can't help with the fried chicken, but I can help with the pies... And if we're not on your way home, you could pick them up the evening before.

Thanks Robin. Not quite sure I can serve Liver and Onions to this crowd....would be funny though! Have you had, do you remember the green beans, mashed potatoes or any desserts particularly pies? CD

Flabby's has great fried chicken and could more than likely do what you need with a call ahead. Pies would have to come from elsewhere.

I second not going to KFC (or supporting them). I won't go into the ethics here. Bummer that Southside closed. A bunch of us from IUS would always go there on Fridays for lunch. They were always packed.

I hadn't been to SSI since before the holidays, but heard they kept raising their prices and eventually installed a $10.00 lunch buffet...unfortunately, enhanced pricing wasn't matched with enhanced quality and selection, and they apparently closed their doors....I miss the "traditional" South Side -- fake wood paneling and all -- good, unpretentious food with a solid price value....for a long time you could get a full tray of food for about $5.00....places like that seem to be getting fewer and fewer.

I agree. It seems to me that there will always be a need for a place that executes the basics well. When I am moving really quickly, months on end, the hardest thing for me to find are two warm vegetables and a piece of protein and possibly a salad that isn't the size of Vermont. I don't require anything complicated nor am I interested in eating enormous amounts/calories. When I can't cook, what I think I'm looking for is something close to what I would do myself in the basics section of my own repertory. In trying to avoid fast food, I usually end up deconstructing an item on someone's menu and praying they won't take offense. CD
