Charlies. Peanut Butter Pizza. Anyone else remember this?

Didn't they used to have local punk bands in there, too?

I was thinking it was Mario's Pizza. That was a long time ago!

There was a Mario's over there somewhere. Brings back memories. Pasquallies (sp?)where Avalon is and then a movie at the Uptown. It was great place to grow up.

I remember reading, sometime around 1974 or so, that Tumbleweed in New Albany was serving mexican food.
My memory's not as sharp as it used to be.

I found one lonely post on the whole internet to validate my admittedly sketchy memory:

"I think the second most memorable venue was Charlie's Pizza in the highlands. This is where Spot played its first paying show. Charlie's was a dump of a pizza parlor about a half a block down from Tewligans. The owner was a great old guy who loved to see the punks hanging out in his place. They had your normal pizza parlor fare, sandwiches, garlic bread that you would taste three days later, but the specialty of the house was the "peanut butter pizza." On the crust they spread a layer of peanut butter and then sauce and cheese and so on. It sounds kind of gross, but It was good, I remember Duncan Barlow and Jason Graff from Spot's sister band Crisis (and later Endpoint) always hanging out at Charlie's and always eating the peanut butter pizza. I remember the local tough was a guy named "Finko" who scared the crap out of me. He was a part time delivery boy for Charlie's that picked fights with anyone at any time, he was generally drunk always menacing."

I belive George and Linda Keller started Tumbelweed In 1977 across from New Albany HS. Went to Linda's parents place on Mellwood in 1979, The Hillside Tavern. I had my rehearsal dinner in the back room in Oct 1979. I opened the 2nd Tumbelweed location in Louisville at the current Wild Eggs in Dupont in 1980.

Mario's was in the current Cafe Metro location. Pasquale's was in the current Berno's on Bardstown Rd

I'm pretty sure Pasquale's was where Avalon is now... Didn't Bearno's used to be the Sunset East?
