Re: Karma Cafe on Bardstown closing

I posted a while ago about the service at this place on the "germaphobe" topic. Basically, they served us food that they just brought out to someone else who actually started eating off of it before they realized it was our food and not theirs. Needless to say, I'm not devastated about this loss. It is, however, a bummer to see another victim of the recession....We are trying to do our part with dining out, but it is becoming increasingly difficult.

Regardless of the quality of the service, the food was always better than 360's in the wee hours of the morning. I'm very sad to see it go.

Does the Karma Cafe really seat 80?

I wouldn't be surprised - that's only 20 four-tops. If I remember the layout, it's L-shaped, with tables all across the front and then going back a way on the left (south) side - maybe two old storefronts merged into one?

I'm a bit torn about how I feel about Karma closing.

When they first opened, it seemed very promising. I liked the variety on the menu and I found a few decent things. I have a few good memories from its early days. But then it seemed to go bad. Service was HORRIBLE and the food began to go downhill. One time, there was a waittress who was absolutely out of line with how bizarre she acted towards me and my friends, she seemed a bit immature to be a waittress. And I used to have a favorite dish there but the last few times I went there and ordered it...half the ingriedents were missing!
My boyfriend is bummed about it closing and he tends to defend the cafe moreso than I do, but I think he's just going to miss a place to hang out real late.

Thank you Marsha for the info. We had seen that listing and thought it to be a bit high under the circumstances. Thanks again.

I used to love Karma Cafe but the last few times I went the quality of the food wasn't that great. Ordering the pasta with olive oil, sundried tomatoes and feta cheese and getting regular tomatoes and no cheese at all made me quit going there.

It was nice having a late night diner that served a cheaper version of what you would get at Ramsi's, even if the quality wasn't as good.

We tried it a couple of times and experienced the same weird service/non-service. Once we sat there for about 15-20 minutes and no one ever approached us despite that there was only one other table and several of the staff were standing & chatting only a few feet away from us. We gave up & left. No one noticed or looked up from the conversation. It's a shame. Great location. Would love another good diner option.
